He’s so cute. I think he’s your gentle boy. I wish Raffy would nod off!

Otto is running around again now.
Yes, he is a quiet and gentle boy but he can get stroppy when he gets a whiff of Davy.

Otto's eye has been playing up again lately and he wakes up with a sticky eye. I started to treat it as such and bathe it regularly with a very weak saline solution. It opened up a treat tonight but Otto stomped off in a right strop.
He got over it a little while later and asked to come out.

I'm planning to move Otto in Clive's Plaza but i hope it is the right thing to do. Otto has never shown any stress behaviours in his Alaska.
He does like a bit of open space though and doesn't like a crowded set up. And he dives into a burrow under his platform so the Plaza with the panels would give him deeper substrate. I need to replicate his current set up because he seems to like it.
I always feel a bit nervous when changing to a different cage and not all hamsters want more space.

I can understand you feeling nervous just in case Otto does not like it. I am sure Otto will let you know if he prefers the move.

I’ve done quite a few cage changes & tend to feel a bit apprehensive too but it sounds as though the Plaza would really suit what Otto likes.

I've moved Otto's things over while he was free roaming. I didn't add anything new so it looks a bit bare but he likes it that way. I've tried a house, wicker tunnel, cork log, jar with sand, cork etc before but he chucked it out of his way and filled the jar with substrate.
I think he likes the free space to burrow. Even a house was in his way so i used the roof and made it into a freestanding platform which he tunnels under.
He's not into heights and sitting around on shelves like all the other Syrians were.
He knew something was up and he hovered around my feet so i put him into the Plaza while i was still finishing off. He had a good sniffing inspection, found all his things in a similar layout, had a drink, pouched some food and went underground somewhere. No tantrums and he seemed happy.

I think it's a good idea, moving him to the Plaza. He will enjoy the space - it's more room to add a few things. And you've kept his set up similar so it will just be a bit more to explore. I've got used to using that cage for all hamsters now, and I think a lot is perspective. It seems bigger at first, and then it doesn't seem very big!

I think its a good size for a male Syrian but i prefer the xl grosvenor for a dwarf.

I'm going to use the Alaska as a foster cage for Syrians. It's ideal for that because its high enough for a big wheel. I've accumulated three Hamster Heavens again and must get rid of two.

Yes I think the Grosvenor sounds good for a dwarf.

The change over went really well, his little face in the photo is really sweet!

ooh I missed his little face! Spotted it now :)
