That is tough. Have you called all the vets up and asked if they have anybody who could treat hamsters?

Perhaps the breeder could tell you which vet they use.

My vets aren't exotics vets either but two of the vets have very good hamster knowledge.

You could ask if they have vets who perform surgery on hamsters because any vet can prescribe baytril and metacam but surgery on small mammals is more specialized.

Exotic vets can be few and far between. Assume you've put "Exotic vet in x county" in google? If you put the region in it comes up with the odd one although they may be an hour away. Mine is an hour's drive away.

Hopefully you won't need one for a while. But it's good to check these things out in case you do :)

I’ve messaged one 40 mins away but no reply

They may be busy. If you are comfortable talking on the phone then you may get more luck calling tomorrow.

update I found one its not advertised as a exotic vets but one of the owners used to run a small animals practice so I've emailed them

"Small animals" usually refers to cats and dogs. I would find a listed vet practice in your area - there may be a few. And read the individual vet bios on each website to see if one of them specialises in "small furries" as they designate hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs etc.

phew I looked and most specialise in small furries so I've registered him

Where was it out of interest? :) Is it a place you could put a litter tray? That really helps as then in future you just need to empty the litter tray.

It’s in the bottom left corner right at the bottom of his burrow, his sand bath is in the upper left corner, he’s an awkward boy 😂

Ok - what I would probably do (if you have space) is put a multiroom house over that corner with the toilet inside one of the rooms. He'll probably still burrow under the house but may also build a cosy nest in it as well and get in the habit of using the toilet as it's near his nest and burrow.

There is some logic in this - they do seem to like a dark private space, to sleep eat and do their ablutions! Which is why they tend to use the toilet inside a multitroom house. Rather than having the effort of emerging from a cosy burrow to "go outside" to go to the loo!

Alternatively you could put the toilet tray on top of the substrate near his burrow entrance. as he may start using it when he realises the spot cleaning of the underground toilet is annoying.

I have a multi chamber in the right bottom corner where he also stashes food like he does with his pee spot and I found the tiniest bit of pee in there nowhere near as much as his pee spot

My hamster never used his MCH to toilet either. He only used it as a tunnel to pop out of the top. :)

They tend to have their toilet not far from where they're sleeping (eg stagger out of bed to go to the loo!). Or in the corner of a cage, but that's usually when there isn't much depth of substrate - if they use a corner of the cage.

Reggie has a bald spot what do I do? I can't handle him to get a closer look yet
