The next heat wave!

He’s buried down so deep all I can see is bedding

I have just spoken to a beautiful vet in the exotic clinic which has the best reputation in the south of Germany. I explained the situation and sent her pictures of the cage in the cellar and her advise is to bring Nibbles down there as soon as possible. If he doesn’t come up at his usual time she told me to get him out.
She explained that overheating is far worse for him than eventually a little bit of stress over a new room. It’s absolutely ideal temperatures down there and she said just put up a small 💡 for a period of time during the day. Also told me to stay with him for a few hours. If I need any further help, I can ring her day or night as she is on duty. 🫶🙏 what a lovely vet

I got a portable air conditioning unit three years ago and wouldn't be without it now. The room the animals live in is south-east facing and quite exposed at the front of the house so it really does get quite hot in the mornings and then stays hot all day. Back then I was boarding animals so in summer I was often responsible for keeping lots of animals safe.

It vents with a tube of the window which is a bit of a hassle but still worthwhile. In theory it can get the room down to 16C but on really hot days, 21/22C is more realistic which is still very comfortable. It is noisy so it goes off at night. It cost £300 three years ago and you can still get units for a similar price or less.

Obviously AC isn't an option for everyone but I thought I'd put it out there as the way things are going, I think we will have many more of these heatwaves.

Thank you. Do you have a tip for which one or a link please :-) Also as well as cooling the room, does it make the air quality better? That's the issue here with asthma - no air to breathe upstairs.

Mine is an Electriq model from Appliances Direct though the model is discontinued. Electriq is a good brand though.

I'm not sure about air quality. Some models might have additional air filters and they probably reduce humidity a bit.

Yes the one I ordered does reduce humidity as well. It’s a Delongi

OH managed to free up the old sash window in the upstairs bedroom so it is now wide open and a nice cool breeze coming in - the room is still quite warm on one side but the breeze has cooled it off mostly :-)

Very refreshing today and fairly windy here. However I read that the long range forecast said the heat wave is coming back in about 10 days time - so we had all better get prepared!
