Lovely photos of Sprite 😍
There should be a minimum wage for posing!

Sprite was very busy in his playpen yesterday. He seemed happy I tidied it.

He’s having a good look round & checking everything out!

Lovely watching Sprite there. A little hop in and out of the wheel, just to make sure he's still claiming it :-) And a roll in the shell. Always nice to see him rolling in sand! Molly doesn't seem to have been in her shell at all yet. And doesn't seem to roll in her sand bath yet! Maybe she hasn't learned that yet - she's still very young.

I am sure Molly will surprise you one day by rolling in her sand. :)

The new cage layout is not working out for little Sprite. He does not have a space to run. Honestly, I am pretty bad at cage set ups but maybe it is something that comes with experience and I do not have enough yet. I am going to have to move his sandbath because putting it in the middle of his cage was a bad idea. I thought he may like it in the middle so it could be accessed easily. I think I need to learn to think more like a hamster. :)

It’s not always easy to get things right especially when you’re adding things to a set up rather than starting from scratch.
Hope you can find somewhere to put it that he’s happy with.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from experience it’s that I’m overambitious every time with every set up I think I can get more in than is practical! Sometimes it is hard to find a balance between giving them everything we want to & also being practical about it.
The sand bath is very big, I had another look at your set up photo & it’s hard to see where you could put it without having to change quite a lot in the cage really.
Could you use something a bit smaller that would still be big enough for him to have a good roll & dig in? It shouldn’t need to be too big really.

Perhaps the shell in his playpen would be better in his cage.

You are right. I have been overambitous. Thank you for helping me. 😊

That’s a good idea, certainly worth a try, it might be easier to fit in & he clearly likes it.

The shell is also a nice sand bath. I'm off to have a look at the set up again to see if I can suggest anything :)

Looking at the layout. I would suggest leaving the sand bath in for now, but moving it next to the dig box in the corner, on that side. Then he'll have more space to run the length of the cage, on the side where the sand bath is now. Rather than change too much at the moment. He enjoys the shell in the playpen at the moment. That would mean moving the bridge over to the other side and maybe moving the branch somewhere else (or leaving it out - I'm sure he can get into the sand bath without it). The sand bath and dig box would be next to each other in the same area at the same end and free up some more space generally - then at some point maybe think about the size down sand bath? This wouldn't mean major changes - just rearrangement. Then see how that goes.

I am sure he would like hopping between the dig box and sand bath :) I feel a bit the same about Molly's cage. As the sand bath is more or less in the middle it does seem to restrict running area - but she does like running over the top of it on the cork log. Or running through it!

I have already made the changes. The big sand bath does not fit into the corner next to the dig box. What I did was just remove the sandbath and put a platform in its place with the shell and a tunnel. Thank you for the ideas though.

Here is how it looks now.

That looks like it will work well for him, he still has a nice big sand bath & enough space to run around, he can get under the platform too so that makes more space as well.
Has he checked it out yet?

It looks great! I think those were good choices. The sand bath must have been really big because the shell looks small in comparison! And I know the shell is huge! And it is still the place I thought might be good for it :-)

He has checked it out. He was happy to have more forage but I dont think he was happy with the changes.
