Sprite spends a lot of time trying to escape his cage during the night. Look how persistent he is here.

He’s certainly giving it a good go!
I don’t think it’s about trying to escape but more that they just always explore boundaries & probably don’t understand why they can’t go any further or get through things.

They are so active at night and always wanting to see if they can get out! Assume he eventually settled for running on his wheel :)

It looks like you have a really active fun hamster!

He runs on his wheel such a lot. He is so active and full of beans! It is a pity I am not awake at that time but he is most active between 1-5 and I am a zombie at that time.

I think that’s the same for most people :). It’s why hamsters need their wheels! And plenty of space. I know you know that anyway! They usually settle into a routine of foraging and wheeling at night.

I think Sprite would prefer a bigger cage. He uses every part of it. Luckily he loves his wheel. :)

I think at night, no cage is big enough for them!

Sprite - Mum, lemme out, I am sure I heard the delivery man at the door with my treats!

Sprite is so tired today. He got up to have a wash in his sand. He almost melts to his hide like a pancake.

He looks very cute in there, having some chilling out time before he’s off again!

I love his bit of yoga as he walks out :) He has a lovely personality.

Today Sprite has been out five times! He wanted to go in his playpen to collect seeds and then go back to unpouch them. I am not sure what just happened because he went into his playpen again, collected seeds then started attacking my hands and feet. I thought he wanted to come out as he kept scratching at the glass until I picked him up and he did indicate he did so I am not sure why he then seemed annoyed.

Goodness he is seeming busy. Maybe the last time he was just feeling a bit frazzled. Do you say no to him? I say it in a pleasant but disapproving and firm way. Sometimes they get the message after a few times.

Yes. I say, 'No biting'. Thing is, I tried to ignore the scratching just to see if I misunderstood but he looked up at me and carried on. This indicates to me he wanted to come out. I am still new to hamsters. I wonder if he is possibly testing boundaries but I am unsure.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell what they want, they are all different & it takes time to read their behaviour, maybe he was just getting a bit over excited rather than annoyed?

That is a good point. Perhaps he was over excited. He wanted me in the playpen with him and when I just sat by it he looked at me until I went in there.

Here he was in the playpen. He looks relaxed to me. :)

He does look very relaxed and content, just taking his time & enjoying his treat toy.
