I spent time with Sprite this morning. He is so photogenic.

I had a peek in Sprite's MCH to see if he is using the ceramic toilet. He is using it to store his whimzee. How cute! He has some seeds in there too. Looks like rather then using it as a toilet he has decided it makes a better larder.

He'll choose his own toilet. Maybe his sandbath if you're lucky, tube toilets are popular too.

I sometimes add a second toilet if they use one for hoarding special things

Sprite has attempted to run on his wheel this evening. I know it will take him time to get used to it but I just remembered some dwarf hamsters prefer a cork lined wheel as they can get a better grip. Does he look like he is sliding about on the wheel or is it just a matter of it taking time for him to learn how to control it?

He's running really well on it It has little ridges so I don't think he'll slip. He looks so chilled and confident. It's lovely.

I don't think he was sliding. It looks more like he's a nosey one and didn't concentrate on running.

Eddie didn't get on with a 10in open wheel but loves his 9in enclosed wheel. He run differently from Sprite though.

That's not why i mentioned it. What i meant was that when Eddie slid on the wheel it looked quite different from the way Sprite runs. I think he runs fine. I'd give him a chance to get used to the wheel. You could get an enclosed one for the playpen maybe and see which one he prefers. Didn't you keep Orko's wheels?

Oh I see! Sorry. Yes, I have Orko's wheels but I think they will be too small for Sprite as he looks quite a big hamster. It is a good idea to use them in a playpen and see which he prefers.

He has been on the wheel off and on since my last post and he looks like he has more control. The exercise tired him out and now he is asleep in a tunnel.

So cute when he meerkats. He seems quite alert and nosy, confident as well.

I didn't know other hamster lovers used the term "meerkating" for when they stand up on their hind legs! We have been using that term, too!
