Robin posing.

That does make me wonder if it’s a moult then because Newt was also a year old when it happened.

In terms of the linseeds - putting a pinch on their own on a separate dish tends to mean they get eaten daily - they often just lick them up. Thats what I do. If mixed in with other food or sprinkled they may not get eaten regularly. So I treat them as a kind of daily medication 😊. It’s can take about two weeks before any difference is noticed.

Thankyou,I will try ,anything is worth a go

I think it's worth a go - I swear by the linseeds daily :-) I guess with her being female, it's also possible it could be hormonal but fingers crossed it's just a moult.

This was Newt when he had his moult. The pics only show part of it - it looked worse in places.

Thanks Maz,well Robin was up bright and early,I love being home for when she gets up. I get cuddles ,she tucks right into my neck and I scratch between her ears. Then I get the bruxing,so adorable as she used to be quite a nervous hammy

Wow, she is a healthy girl! 😘 I have had Syrians that all varied in size in their adult life. I would love it if Benjamin ended up being of a bigger size (like Robin), but time will tell.
LOL all my syrian girls have been big. Stash was the smallest be even she was "well-padded", compared to my active boy Peanut. The girls seem to spend a lot more time grooming, too ;)

Those comments about hamster sizes were interesting ,I just think it's crazy how small other people's hamsters are to mine. The only time I have had a hammy under 200 grams is when they are babies lol Well, quick update on Robin,I have been giving her seeds daily, and she has been taking them. However ,her fur loss has continued sadly ,and she is equally bald in both sides. I will try and get a pic when I see her. Thankfully she hasn't lost weight and is still eating ,drinking and just generally hamstering as normal. I will book her the vet again soon,he has been away, and the only exotic in the area. Oh and it is her birthday today, her 1st,which came around very quickly. I have a treat tray in the post

Happy Birthday Robin! How long has she been having the linseeds? It can take a couple of weeks. No sign of any new fur growing at all?

Happy birthday sweet Robin ❤ Socks had to see the vet over fur thinning. It was going from his back and even from around his eyes. He had ivermectine, yukky stuff, and it has grown back, but I don't know if it was from the ivermectine or from improvements I made to his diet, or if he was moulting. I think Robin gets a really good diet, so I doubt if it is nutrition related. I hope the vet appointment goes well. It is a worry when things go wrong and the cause is not clear.

I would say about a week, since we last spoke about Robin and you suggested it. So ,so far,no improvement ,it's taken five weeks to go from having fur to this baldness.

Thanks a lot,Robin has had the same treatment as Socks, as the vet said we have to start somewhere. But he didn't think it would work due to the pattern of fur loss; and it hasn't . He also didn't think it was anything with her diet as she gets a good muesli mix,lab blocks and fresh veg, plus the right balance of protein. The only thing I am worried about now is her having Cushing's like my previous hammy Penny. But even the vet says it's usually rare in younger ones, and I would be very unlucky to have two on the go with it. I don't know what he would do if he finds it is,I know there are treatments if vets are willing to experiment ,and I don't know if he will.

Maybe it's just a bit of time to see if it grows back, if it's a moult. The alternative is it could be hormonal. It's hard for any treatment to be established without knowing a cause, so if she seems happy and healthy maybe it's a wait and see approach. Unless they suggest scans to see if there;s anything obvious internally.

Thankyou,it literally is just a wait and see for sure.

Managed to get some photos today to show you. Her fur looks wet on her back leg,but it's literally very brittle. She is so happy in her self and enjoyed cuddles this morning and almost fell asleep on me.She is usually too nosey to fall asleep on me. Ignore my nails lol I have a bad habit of chewing them. Oh and her skin isn't sore, bizarrely .
