Hammy

Those treats look very tempting for a hamster!

The new nibbles have caused much excitement tonight with a lot of bottom wiggling which always means he’s super happy 😃 no dragging them off to hidden places just yet, ……..maybe overnight. This one seems the favourite, have I left too much in his cage? He’s currently in the playpen while I’m having a quick tidy. (I must set up a YouTube page so I can link videos).

I am looking forward to seeing lots of bottom wiggling with excitement! You can always tell when they're excited about something can't you?!

Yes completely, he wiggles one way and then another almost as if he’s so pleased he doesn’t know which way to go or what to do with himself! if that makes sense. I’ve read other hamster owners say the same thing with the bottom wiggling. It’s fab!

With Raffy it's more of a "shaking all over" :)

I'm also looking forward to see videos of Hammy. I don't think you left too much in his cage.
Must go and give Lilly a new millet while she's out.

How adorable Hams was so excited by his new sprays. The bottom wiggling made me smile.

We had some giggles last night. After making a brief appearance at 8ish, I asked Hams if he wanted to come out luring him with a tiny piece of cucumber and after eating that and having a wash in his tissue box, he gladly stepped out and was thrilled he was having proper in the front room roam time.

As he's grown older and we've become best buddies I feel much calmer letting him out for a roam. He still has to be watched closely but he's not quite so mischievous now. I guess because he's more used to his surroundings also and when he wants to go home he simply tips his plastic jug over and sits in it.

With him in the front room being watched I've placed the box around his cage to stop any draughts and potentially keep him a bit warmer. On his return he slowly moved around taking a look then when he saw all was well, he stuffed his cheeks and went back to bed.

Hello, what make of wheel and cage is this? It looks like a Hamster Heaven like I've got for Albert. I'm looking for a new wheel for Albert to attach to the side of his cage like your photo shows above.

Hmmmmm, the little fella has been a real tinker in the playpen recently, constantly looking for ways out and chewing the sides; so I’ve set up the larger play area in our dining room tonight and now he’s been hiding in the shoebox for 15mins just can’t figure him out sometimes. The playpen seems too small and the play area a bit scary 🤔

All good now, back to looking for ways to get out 😃

Aw, Hams looks like he is having a lot of fun in the larger play area. :) Sounds like he was just a little wary as it was new to him.

Thank you, he did come out and explore for a little while but I think it is a big area for him compared to the playpen and he just always seems a little unsure of it. One plus side is that I sit in the exit gap 😆 so he ventures over and sits in my lap which is soooooo nice. But really I know he’s on the look out for an escape!!

That is lovely he comes and sits on your lap :) He will soon adjust to more space - and then want even more ha ha. Wherever there is a barrier, they want to be past it! He is such a gorgeous colour. I have similar photos of Raffy trying to climb the wall lol. And he did actually manage to climb it a bit! In a corner where he could grip on two sides. One wall side and one door frame side.

Great to see him coming out to explore the larger area, it is lovely that he comes to sit on your lap too. They do take a while to get used to anything new so the bigger area is bound to be a bit scary at first, I’m sure he’ll soon get used to it though.

You could provide some overhead cover for now by placing a dining chair in the play area. Ours often seek out the dark areas and corners of the room inbetween running around. Or two dining chairs with a sheet over them to make a tent roof like kids do to sit under.

Going to pop a couple of the new pick n fly grasses in today, will let you know what he thinks 👍

Just been to P@H and they had some selective Harvest Hoops for hamsters Apple, Linseed and Peanut……eek, all 3 of hams favourite treats in one snack!!!! I can’t see anything random in them that he shouldn’t have but will take a look on the healthy snack page in here before feeding.

These have been one of my favorites with our Syrian.

Hams has been enjoying his new sprays. This little area has become his messy corner now where I leave him a little forage mix along with the sprays. He pops out in the day to this area for a snack.
