It doesn’t look like plastic to me either! Sometimes that info on Amazon is wrong though, I know a few times when I’ve bought things I’ve seen contradictory info. If was plastic I think you would be able to tell, I’ve never seen a plastic that feels like the natural material those tubes are made of & the bit about it lasting a long time may just be sales blurb.
If you’re uncertain though maybe better to return it & get a brand you can trust.

As he’s a bit of a foody, guess I just try a bit at a time as he’ll no doubt try and drag them all off to his food hoard as he did with his new millet the other night . I left the millet up on his large shelf, tied to the bars. It would’ve been great watching him carry the whole thing back down a level. Must’ve taken a while to chew through the jute too.

The contents varies. I'm lucky to be able to buy pick n' fly in a pet shop so can chose the most suitable packets. Some have more of one thing than others and the millets come in different sizes. You could end up with one huge millet that looks like a branch in a cage or four smaller individual ones in another packet.

Hams uses his wheel very little when out in the playpen so thought I'd treat him to a flying saucer.

As he's never had one and is over 1yrs old now I wasn't sure what he'd make of it, but as it's rather large and suddenly appeared in his playpen, he's taken more interest in it than I thought.

After two weeks of giving it a sniff and chew, he climbed on it at the weekend and was not impressed that every time he got nearish to the top it swizzled him back to the bottom. Infant, I think his slow climbing to the top was actually to look for a way over the side of the playpen (as always ) but nope, it turns and whoosh, he's back at the bottom.

So last night I was super surprised when he climbed on for another go and simply started, jogging or maybe more power walking (but not running) and I think he enjoyed it watch this space.... Maybe he'll be running soon

Does anyone else have hamsters who don't really use their wheels / saucers? Hams loves to explore but I'd prob say from about 6 months he doesn't really bother with his wheel and if he does it's for a very short run, then he hops back out. His wheel works ok when he's in it, he's just not a runner I guess... bit like me

I haven’t used a saucer for years now, mine always prefer wheels but I think it’s a good idea to have something different for out of cage time.
I’ve never had a ham stop using the wheel until they were just too old, maybe it’s more of a Syrian thing.

Yes, Orko already runs at quite some speed! On a flying saucer he may well whizz straight off!

I think because my mind (and the photos videos on here) tell me hamsters should be enjoying their wheels, it's kinda a shame that he doesn't use it. I sit downstairs some nights as I get migraines and even then he's just pottering around, not wheeling. I'd love to see him have a good run. Fingers crossed he starts enjoying the saucer when he's out each evening.

Our Syrians have always loved their saucers in the playpen. I think Raffy prefers it to his wheel in the playpen but uses both. Yes they do seem to try and see it as a possible escape route ha ha. Have you seen the video of Newt doing that? You can see he was trying to get to the top and eyeing the top of the playpen! He did manage it at one point and then did a kind of victory circuit lol!

I think they are quite cautious about running on saucers until they work it out and then enjoy them. Our first robo loved his saucer - he had both a wheel and a saucer in his cage and used both regularly. And yes they do fly off initially, just as they do with a wheel, but they soon get the hang of it.

Are you sure Hams isn't just using his wheel at night? As they get older, some Syrians will only use their wheel after dark for some reason. If you don't have a nightcam you can do a test by putting a piece of substrate on top of the wheel at night and see if it's gone in the morning!

My Syrians have never used their wheels much in their cages. The Robos run on their wheels a lot but they don't want much or no freeroaming time.

Just been to P@H and they had some selective Harvest Hoops for hamsters Apple, Linseed and Peanut……eek, all 3 of hams favourite treats in one snack!!!! I can’t see anything random in them that he shouldn’t have but will take a look on the healthy snack page in here before feeding.

I was going to cut them down a little but then thought I’d leave them larger in the hope he’ll just nibble bits off rather than try and pull the whole thing to his hoard, we will see
