Flower Power

I have a pair of robins who must regard this as their territory. Sometimes they come together to feed or individually.

The flowers are in a hanging basket on the trellis and are one of H’s geraniums.

The swallows nest must be lovely to watch Maz, I miss swallows as we don’t get them here any more.
Robins are around all year, they do migrate though so often gardens will have a different one in the winter & summer while others will protect a territory all winter & stay to breed in the summer.

They're noisy! I can't see a nest - it's above Window height. I've wanted to take a photo all week but didn't feel up to it, plus it's not a good view through the window (which needs cleaning on the outside at the top!).

Lovely photos and beautiful rich colours!

I often wondered why robins are not as shy as other birds and come quite close.

If I don’t notice the robin on Julius Caesar quickly enough, he will come onto the outside door handle of the door I use to come out and feed him. He waits until he sees me moving towards the door before flying off to JC or wait elsewhere nearby.
I must get a photo of this for you Beryl!

The answer is here - it seems it's quite a British thing! But their nature is to follow mammals to get food.

"There has long been a tradition of hunting and trapping small birds on the continent so robins have remained fearful of humans whereas in Britain robins have co-existed with humans for many years and learned that there is no threat in being close to us. In fact they may be at an advantage by being friendly towards humans as they are rewarded with food."

This morning I thought I would show how my H’s love of the exotic has grown and grown over the decades!

Much closer to the ground - for elusive - an appreciative visitor to the patch of poppies, going from one to another.

That looks quite tropical with the vibrant blue sky!
❤️ the 🐝 enjoying the poppy.

How great to have palm trees in your garden! I assume they're palm trees? What is the insect on the poppy? I can't quite see.

Yes, these 2 are planted in the ground and have grown up from babies. No doubt that helped them survive the winter.
But I had to hold a ladder recently so H could go up as high as he dared and cut off the lowest fronds that were frost damaged or dead.

That was a visiting bee on the poppies and there have been visits for a day or two now.

Fab palm tree and blue sky! Add a cocktail and deck chair then pretend to be in the tropics minus the heat. Perfect.

Bumble bees are my third favourite animal. Hamster - bat - bumble bee.

Classic blooming Beryl this morning.
Went outside to do a bit of weeding before my coffee. Pulled out a weed and chopped it in half then realized almost simultaniously that it was the raspberry planted two days ago!

Oops! You’re not alone doing things like that Beryl, believe me! Did you try replanting it? Raspberry plants are pretty indestructible & it would probably grow again.

After chopping it in half? I never thought of replanting the root but could be worth a try. If i can find it in the green bin....

Oh sorry to hear that. I hope you can find it and it regrows.

Worth a try if you find it, just give it a good water & it should grow.

I rummaged through the almost full green bin and couldn't find it. I'd have to empty it onto the drive which i've brushed today so will get another or something else. People sell plants round here at their garden gate with an honesty box for payment.

Went out for a walk this afternoon by the Thames. Kept a look out for a rare sight this year which is a swan family.
Here is mum with 4 cygnets, 2 behind and 2 hitching a ride against the current on her back. If you expand the photo you might be able to see the rear end of the second on her back as it only popped its head up once and was too far away by then.
