The sun is struggling to make a dent in the clouds here, it’s still nice & cool & damp, we actually had quite a good amount of rain.

A few minutes ago I was a bit slow to notice that a snack was required outside. I was sitting opposite the protest on the open patio door!

Apparently the snack was not big enough for two so a second threshold protest followed because the robin ‘s mate was outside waiting!

That is really nice :-) A robin at the door. I just have the swallows flying in and out of their nest being noisy.

A robin calling at the door! That's incredible.
Thank you Beryl. I had you and elusive in mind particularly when I took the photo. I wanted you to see it!
It is happening every day at the moment when the door is open. Usually more than once. It’s lovely.

Oh dear. We were sitting having lunch and chatting and the table is around the corner from the open patio door.
Robin must have been able to hear us and so he flew into the room and then straight out again and the beating of wings noise alerted me. I saw the indignant visitor flying back outside and so I jumped to serve food at once!

Hi Frida, it’s a little indulgent but I buy a robin friendly bird mix from Ark Wildlife. I have discovered over the last 3 years that the robins’ favourite food from that is a pinkish tube shaped piece. They don’t like all of the mix, no doubt the cheaper fillers are the bits they turn their beaks up at! So each half teaspoon contains some pink stuff, a little peanut and sunflower seeds. All broken down by me to a single peck size. So no waste! and then each evening I put out a spoon of the bird mix in case I miss them asking. Whoever likes that knows the pattern and it always goes.
I could put out a larger amount on a little bird feeder tray I bought from AW but in the end the delightful array of small garden birds that came daily to that were elbowed out by masses of pigeons and some crows. So I stopped that.
It was a shame as it was a lot of fun to watch during lockdown. I learnt to identify different birds and was surprised by the variety here.

Those pinkish things are suet pellets, I buy mini berry ones that are similar & the robins love them.

It's lovely you buy special food for the robins. They obviously appreciate it.
I have the same problem with the pigeons.

I got a photograph of our birds nest today. I waited ages to try and catch birds going in and out of it and gave up. Earlier I had seen them going to and from the nest. OH thinks they're Swallows. They might be but I'm not sure. Never see their tails open. They're probably sparrows again! It looks like mainly mud. It's amazing it actually stays up there and doesn't fall down.

It does look rather like a swallows nest, they are so fast it can be hard to tell if you do see them but sparrows do look very different & don’t swoop around catching insects like swallows do so that might help tell.

It does look like a Swallows nest yes - and they are too fast to see properly. They don't look like house martins. I'm wondering if they might be barn swallows as they don't quite look black and white to me. More of a brown blur.

They don't really look like Swifts either to me!
