Hello all!!!

I haven't seen much of Mr Chubbs lately. He's been busy with his tunnel system :) anyhow, my sister found this pop up kids tent in the lost and found at work so I decided to try it out as a little playpen. It's good enough for now but I'm going to make something sturdier for later on. This was his first foray out of the aquarium so I kept it short and I think he was a little bit scared but also curious. Got a whopping two photos that weren't blurry! He's pretty good about climbing in the mug which makes for easy transport back and forth to his cage. He doesn't mind being picked up but he's calmer in the mug so I think that will be our safer go-to now! My mom also seems to have taken in a stray cat so I thought I would post some photos of him too lol we're going to take him in to check for a chip as no one in the hamlet seems to know where he came from. But he's a very friendly soul and I'm fairly certain he's been neutered and loved at some point but it wouldn't be the first cat that has been dumped out there :( our one cat, Pippin, that we found last year sitting on a fence post miles from any house or barn on a -31'C day etc became our second cat (both indoor). She's an absolute monster that one but she was only about four months when we found her and she was either thrown from a vehicle or was holding onto the engine as her poor little paws had road rash all over and her little nails were bloody stubs :( she's a sweet cat and absolutely beautiful but a troublemaker!!!! I honestly thought that she was a Little owl on the fence post and turned around to take a photo. Couldn't leave the poor little thing there in the freezing cold. I don't know how she lived that long out there. She must have been dumped not long before we found her. Carried her into the car where she promptly peed all over me hahahaha anyhow- We're planning on putting a cat door on the garage for this cat as we just don't have enough room for more indoor cats. I'm not a fan of outdoor cats because I worry about them too much. There's Coyotes and cougars all over out there and I would feel awful if a cat didn't come home. I'm hoping he has a microchip because he's such a loving friendly little guy and I don't want anything to happen to him.

Sweet photos, you have very happy animal companions!

Aw lovely to see Chubbs. That's good he was curious - he'll overcome feeling scared then. I'm sure he'll get to enjoy coming out for playpen time :-) If you have a hide or tunnel or two in there he should enjoy rummaging in there.

Nice you have a rescue cat. The other one you found by the road - that is so sad. You probably know cats and hamsters don't mix! It's best if the hamster is in a room where the cats don't go.

Aw, I love the pictures of Chubs. It is really nice to see he is settling in. I agree with your idea of using a mug as a taxi as it can be a lot less stressful for some hamsters then using hands.

It really is so sad when people dump animals like that. Poor Pippin was so lucky she was found by you. I agree with you about the worry of having an outdoor cat. Hopefully the cat your Mum found has a loving home and the owner will be missing them.

I hope so too!!!!

I am definitely going to get some more hides and tunnels for his playpen! Unfortunately the front of the tent portion is open so it won't work for long but I've looked at some of those pop up ones that were mentioned in another playpen thread and I think one of those would be perfect. How though do I get Chubbs from his cage without ruining his tunnels trying to "dig" him out of his bedding? He's down pretty deep and doesn't come up for treats really. Not sure if he even wakes up when I'm trying to coax him out lol

All of the cats are actually at my mom's place so no worries there. Just me and Chubbs here!!!! And all the wildlife lol

I would get him used to something to act as a taxi such as a mug or tube. This can be used to transport him to his playpen. Often hamsters prefer this then using hands.

It is still early days and perhaps in time Chubbs can be enticed out with a treat. :)
