Xena female syrian

It was the 100 She got to the edge of the base somehow and chewed till she made a hole and kept chewing. She never escaped but made a hole and was working on it daily to make it bigger. Luckily the new cage came before she got out. But there was a hole.
Formidable hammy ❤️

If it has mesh in front, I would say avoid unless you are paying half that...the Savic 100 will be less escape-able. Well, I think so 🐹

It mensions wire mesh for good ventilation.
Is the 100 big enough floor space? I've got her in a 87.5 long at moment.

Is it this one?

Personally, I wouldn't risk a wood cage with a female syrian, she could chew her way out in no time!

The Savic Plaza 120 is only £10 more :-) and has more space. To keep it less expensive, you could get some grass mats to tie inside the bars at one end and have a deeper bedding end :)

Plenty of 100cm cages and enclosures but not many 120cm ones. The Plaza 120 is probably the cheapest option for 120cm cages. There's a Ferplast 120 as well but it costs more.

Ok I think the 120 is more favourable for her.
I'll shop around but need to make sure her wheel fits too. Thanks all. I own guinea pigs x 8 and they are in large cages but height ain't a problem cuz they don't climb the bars lol

I've got two GP boys ❤️❤️ Having eight is lovely ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 🏡 I've only got space for two.
The Grosvenor is OK and cheaper but you would need to create a space on the floor for the wheel and slope the bedding up to a depth of 6". You could probably get Viking Lazer panels to fit it. The Savic will allow you to fix the wheel to the side, which can be nice as then it doesn't slide around. I got the inlet cage and wheel for Socks to give him a nice wheel after going through a number of, admittedly, cheaper wheels. The new version of the Omlet cage is nice, but the top and front opening doors on the Savic, especially the Plaza are great. The problem with bar climbing still exists and very deep bedding goes over the shelf, although it can hold 6" in the tray. If you like the idea of landscaping your hammy habitat with branches, cork logs, sand baths, substrates, hides etc then a 120cm cage makes that much easier and is worth the extra money.

Sorry, that should be Omlet cage, not inlet cage 😛 Socks is an older hammy now and doesn't really bar climb any more, sweet boy ❤️

I've checked my last purchase cage and it's only 78.5 long that's really bad. I bought it cuz of the deep glass bottom for deep bedding but didn't realise how dangerous it can be with the highest point and her climbing to the top and potentially falling and hurting herself. I'd be gutted if she injured herself because of the cage I bought her. My bad! I bought a temporary cage which is only 58 habitat 1 or something. I'm going to sort this asap. My little girl is my baby and I'm gonna do what's best for her. You all are great with your advise and suggestions 😊

The glass base is really nice - its such a shame about the dimensions. We have all been there! And its great you want to get things right for her.

An 11" or 12" wheel fits really easily in a Plaza 120 - I had mine on the back wall. The cage has a big door on top as well as at the front, which makes it easy to fix things to the back bars. Or you could have it on one end. My Syrian that had the Plaza 120 actually had a 32cm wheel which was huge, and that fitted fine, but it meant I had to lower the bedding slightly in front of the wheel and have it deeper everywhere else :-)

A tank style would be ideal (although I'd suggest not wood) if you want to be sure she won't bar chew, but they are so much more expensive and I still think its rare for them to bar chew if they have enough space in a cage to have normal behaviours at ground level.

There is this Meewoofun tank style cage for just under £100 (quote below taken from our cages article) which is more coated board than wood so less likely to chewed through - harder and thicker than wood. BUT - people say there is the odd little gap where bedding can fall through - which means it could be the odd little gap to chew at corners edges maybe.

Meewoofun sloping door version 103cm x 58.6cm x 61.3cm

Meewoofun also now have a version with a sloping front door, similar to the Niteangel Vista

Available from Amazon for £99.99 (affiliate link)

There is never an ideal solution with hamster cages! It needs to suit the hamster, fit a budget and space available, and be something you feel comfortable with accessing wise as well. I personally love the Plaza cages for the interaction with the hamster through the bars and front door.

The Meewoofun could more easily accommodate deeper bedding though, and maybe if there were signs of chewing at corners, the corners could be reinforced somehow (although personally the idea of that kind of diy makes me shudder in case I messed it up!)

When you do decide which to get, if you get it from one of the links on the cages article, it helps fund the forum running costs! But doesn't cost you any extra. Although obviously if you find the same cage cheaper elsewhere then that would be a first choice! But some are only sold on Amazon or at Pets at Home, which are the ones with the affiliate links :-)

Or you might decide to make an Ikea Platsa enclosure - I'll link our thread on diy cages ..........

It's not a bad cage as it does allow for deep bedding, but a longer one storey cage would be better. They like to burrow under platforms and create secret tunnels. 80cm was the minimum until very recently so there are still alot of smaller cages around. She is a very lucky hammy ❤️

That sounds like the Savic Plaza 100 :-) And yes that's ok. If you're looking at those, there are usually a number of second hand ones available for abut £40. New they are £80.

So while it might be ok - there is a chance she might bar chew if it's not quite big enough. However - if it's the Plaza 100 and you get it cheap - you can actually buy full perspex to replace the bars. But - that costs about £120! So it's like buying another cage. And for about £150 you can get a perspex tank (Buctatstate 2 100cm).
