What do you use as a sandbath?

Asda £2 glass bon bon jars are very popular here especially with dwarfs who like an enclosed sandbath container.
Baking trays and tins as they are available in different sizes to fit a particular space.
Tupperware for the same reason.
The bottom half of the big round sweetie tubs. You can pop the lid back on when spot cleaning to keep substrate out.
Strong cardboard boxes.
Tip: always have a small sieve handy to remove seed shells and other debris, a small poop scoop to remove clumps of wee and a pastry brush to brush sand back in, off wheels etc.

I have a glass cooking tray. I put a cork log bridge over it to help my robo feel secure as the tray is very open.

Pie dishes. Enamelled, ceramic, whatever fits best.
The only made for hamsters sandbath i've ever bought is the Rosewood cardboard one which includes the sand. I made a little cardboard roof for it and my dwarf Clarissa loved it.

Some great ideas there! Charity shops especially - I got a nice old fashioned cut glass trifle bowl there - I'd been needing something to make jelly and trifles in for ages and it reminded me of my granny.
I will admit to buying something specially for a sand bath once - it was a large pottery salt pig (similar shape to the angled cookie jars) in lovely glazed colours. Ridiculous. It ended up being used as a "nick nack" holder and is full of all sorts of rubbish, spare screws, bits of receipts. I really like it. But there is no need to buy something specially for a sand bath really. I've mostly had Syrians who haven't been bothered about sand.
Oh yes and I'll admit to buying a sand bath for a Robo as well - the rodipet pot one with the half covered lid. It's on it's second robo now. Really wasn't necessary - but is the perfect size for a robo.

I bought two different sand boxes. One the ceramic Rodipet one and the other a 50cm one from Henrys Hamster Homes. Orko did not like either.

Oh yes. I forgot about my 50p charity shop terracotta salt pig and spoon. A dwarf loved it as her sandbath and Scottie still uses the spoon as a water bowl.

Good point - some of them can be quite large - and also difficult for the hamster to climb in and out of unless the lip is low at substrate level - I used to worry they'd get stuck in there and not be able to climb out!

Yes, i use the Asda ones at substrate level and put a small piece of cork or large pebbles in front of it. You can also lay them on their flat side to make a more shallow sandbath.
Scottie doesn't like the cork and always chucks it aside.
The only problem i can see is if people don't put enough sand in it and a small dwarf may slide on the glass. Even then, a hamster would shovel the sand into a heap and still get out.

I’ve used salt pigs but only have one I really like as most aren’t deep enough, also the rodipet ceramic one & the getzoo wooden one but my favourite or rather the hams favourite has been the Hagen bird bath.

Yes I saw it too! It’s quite cute and a bit like a sweet jar or large salt pig - good idea! Yes Rodipet charge about £8 postage. People used to wait till they needed to order a few things at once as the postage vid the same whether you order one item or multiple items.
