Sydney the Syrian

Ha ha. He's doing well. Still scared. He absolutely loves digging in his Coco soil. He's a little old man

Do you know how old he is?

Goodness he is quite elderly then. Is he still fairly active? Using his wheel etc? Sounds like he deserves lots of tlc in his old age :-)

He was a bit thin when I got him so not sure how good his care was for an elderly hamster. This was him the day he came home. (I was awaiting a bedding delivery) also I had to dash to pets at home on route home to get some kind of Syrian food as I only had dwarf hamster food. 🙈IMG_20230903_184735.jpg

He potters about at his own wee pace. He does go for a little run in the wheel now and then. I'm not totally convinced he's two and a half. But I guess I will never know.

It's tricky when we never really know but good he still uses his wheel a bit. Are you able to handle him at all?

Sydney is a handsome boy and I'm please he's got you to look after him. 🐹💕

He has sat on my hand in the cage a few times but when i move he panics. She told me she'd never handled him. 🙈🙄

Aw poor thing. I had a 1 year old rescue syrian who was like that. He had been in the rescue most of his life and was what I would call, a bit institutionalised. He had a routine, and clean habits but wouldn't be held - he just never did accept it. I managed it the odd time carefully but he clearly didn't like it. He also seemed very reserved until once he had a bit of free roam time and then became very maverick lol!

Yip. I was shocked too. I mean he had a detolf cage so not tiny. But I was in shock when she said that. That's why he's so nervous I expect. But I'm just going to go slow and steady with him as if he's that old he doesn't need any added stress

That's so sad the last owner never handled Sydney. It's lovely he's sat on your hand a few times. Hopefully he will grow more confident in time.

Yes he walks up to me for a treat now. And sometimes if I leave my hand in he sits on it. The first time he did it it was a really sad day for me and I was quite low as my husband had just been taken into hospital. It's as if Sydney knew I needed cheering up.

I believe hamsters are very good at reading how we are feeling. Sydney is obviously a sweet loving boy. 🐹💕

Yes he really is very very sweet. He is so gentle when taking a treat too. Wren used to launch at my hand and cling on. 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️

It is very lucky you and Sydney found each other. He is a beautiful boy and he sounds so gentle and sweet.

I hope your husband is ok now.

Well Sydney doesn't take long to tell you he doesn't like something. 🙈I put in a hide over his sand box and he started squeaking, next thing I know he's at the back of it trying to tip it then when he couldn't manage he was chewing on the bars. 🙈🤣He only seems to bar chew when he doesn't like something. Last week he managed to dislodge his water bottle (I've no idea how, it now has a wire and the holder.) He also has a water dish now too incase he does it again. 🙄
