I wondered about that as well! How deep to have the sand for a dwarf hamster - but I don't think it's a big issue as they can dig - maybe as long as his head can be out of the top if his feet are at the bottom. That's what I went with.

I wouldn't worry about moving substrate around. The main thing is not to change the layout too much. You mentioned maybe having to move the wheel. I think that would be ok as long as the house stays where it is.

Will you have to lose some other items to fit the new ones in?
Thank you. The description says it is suitable for dwarf hamsters but once it arrived I wondered if it may be too deep. I think it is either 14cm or 16cm deep.

Yes, I do not want to change the layout too much but will have to in order to add these items. I wanted to keep the sand bath he has as well and try to add the two other items but I am unsure if it will work. So I was thinking to loose the aspen dig box, ecco earth dig box and possible the small sand bath. He will not need the aspen and ecco earth digging boxes as I can put the substrate in the MCH dig box.

I will be sure to leave his MCH as that is perfect where it is but it is the other items I am unsure of as I will have to actually put the items in because I am unable to visualise it myself.

It’s really hard to visualise things, they never seem to work quite how you think!
The sand bath should be ok, you don’t need to fill it to the top as long as he has some way to get into & out of it easily.
They seem to walk on the surface of shallower sand so I don’t really think they’d sink in deeper sand but can’t be sure as I’ve never tried it.

Thank you. I will try to make some kind of steps and hope he uses them. If I ever put anything as a step to make it easier for him to access something he totally ignores it and tries the difficult way!

I think most of them do that just to prove a point!

I leave sand baths close to full so they have an easier time getting in and out. Plus they love to dig in it, and if they're rolling near the edge there's much less to bump up against.

Definitely do it with Sprite in another area if you can, be it playpen or carrier. It sucks you might have to move the wheel, but if you do take some of the bedding that was under it and set it on the new spot. Let his nose know where to go right away.

He might be miffed for a bit, but you guys already have such a good bond. He could even get over it same day

Sprite had walnut for his morning treat. He was very sleepy despite wanting to get up for his treat and went straight back to bed afterwards.

Aww Sprite looks totally chilled enjoying his walnut & strokes, a real morning treat 😍
Did you have a busy night Sprite?

That is such a cute video, Sprite is really enjoying his walnut and morning strokes🙂

Aw it's lovely seeing him sitting for strokes and enjoying his walnut :-) I like the matching Sprite nail polish :)

Sprite earned that special walnut treat and it looked as though he enjoyed it

Aww were they keeping you waiting Sprite!
He’s going to get confused when the clocks change, he’ll be wondering why you’re still up.

I go to bed at 10 and sometimes he gets up around 9 to encourage me to go to bed earlier!

I have set up Sprite's cage with his new items. He explored a little bit. I will know how he reacts to it after he has been out tonight.

That looks fantastic - I'm sure he'll love it. Did you paint the sand bath? It's a nice colour :) The dig box looks in a good place in that corner and I'm sure he'll love the little steps.

That does look good, I love the little steps going up to his house.
I’m sure he’ll have a lot of fun in the new dig box & sand baath.
