Snowy was out when I was sorting hamster food and water this morning so she got to grab her food direct from the measuring spoon!

Snowy has recently decided that the hinges of the front door to the cage are fun to chew at so I had to move the carrot house to block her access to the one on the right. She had chewed a lot of her seagrass tunnel as well so I moved it to make space to fit in a new cardboard tunnel as well. She did pretty well at coping with the change. Hopefully she'll make a tunnel from the new tube to inside the carrot house.

Oh dear Snowy! Not a good idea.
I hope she figures her new tunnel out ok.
I can’t remember does she have whimzees to chew on?

I restrict how often I give them to her because she destroys them super quick. I tend to give her one a month but I guess a little sooner wouldn't do her any harm?

I don’t think it would do her any harm to have more than that, I’d try one every couple of weeks & see how she goes.
I’ve only heard of issues with eating too much of them with pups that were really too young to have them.

Cool, I'll give her another one then. Paŭ is about due for one too. Need to get another bag soon, with giving them to the rats as well the bag goes down pretty fast!

Oh dear. Good idea to block access to the hinges! I wonder if dwarfs generally go through whimzees quicker? With Syrians I've never seen them finish one! I often find a half chewed one in the house that's been there ages.

It varies from one to another but almost all my Russians & Chinese have gone through them fairly quickly.

She's definitely enjoying that!

I had never noticed till watching this video back that she has dark eyelashes under her eyes! How cute!

Some night soon I want to leave a very dim light on and film her cage to see if she is using the wheel. I haven't seen her use it in ages and it might be better to use the space it takes up for some enrichment she'd actually make use of. Want to make absolutely certain she doesn't uses it at all though, if she still has a little toddle at night then it's good for her to have it for a bit of exercise.

You may like to try putting a piece of bedding on the top of the wheel. If it has gone in the morning then it means Snowy has used her wheel.

It's a very free spinning wheel (21cm bucatstate) so it'd turn even if she just brushes past it or walks underneath it.

I'm sure she would miss it if it wasn't there. Hamsters generally like everything to stay put ideally - although occasionally something needs to be changed. She was using it recently wasn't she?

She had a brief go in it when I first got it (before she moved cages) and haven't seen her use it once in her new cage.

I usually leave the wheel in with elderly hams even if they don’t seem to be using it, I think they probably do miss it if it goes.
Zak only does the odd step or two in his now but it’s like he just wants to check it out even if he’s not up to a run any more!

I'll leave it in for now then :) I was considering using the space for another substrate box but I could just get an identical box to one of her current ones and swap one around now and then to give her a bit of variety.
