My family come from Whitby, so I know it wellIt's a shame when these things happen isn't it? I used to have lots of favourite haunts in Whitby which was still quite old fashioned and had some great little junk shops and greasy spoon cafe's. Until the property boom in the early 2000's. No more cheap little junk shops and greasy spoon locals cafe's - they're all cappucino bars and fancy! Which is nice but you can get that anywhere.
I know where you mean…we did go down as far as Burton Bradstock on our first visit to Dorset. We didn’t even attempt going to the Hive tho as the queue was really long. We also had our dog with us…he wasn’t great with crowded places with other dogs around, so we stuck with picnics. After Lovelyness mentioning a holiday in Dorset, and the railway carriage looks such a lovely place to stay,
I went and had a look at the menu online at The Hive Beach cafe I mentioned. I also read it out to my H. Both of us were very disappointed to read how expensive it has become. Maybe it’s become very popular and gone up market as well as food and other prices rising recently. It used to be such fun and unpretentious.
Such is life I suppose
