Thank you. I think by high needs. it's referring to handleability, diet adjustments etc - especially for children. With Robos being so small and fast. I'm not keen on their care article! Needs updating a bit maybe. It's fine leaving a sand bath in all the time for example.

The only comment I've heard from vets is that, being so small, operating is not always easy. My exotic vet had no problems with that and said she had operated on much smaller creatures. But I think some vets would not be confident doing it and would refer someone on to a specialist.

It's another great find as a rescue!

I did not see the bit about sand baths but you are right, that really does need to be updated.
 
Yes that is a bit vague. I take that simply as a follow on to the comment about diet and handling with children, and robos being small. As far as I'm aware their health needs are no different to any other hamster - except they are extremely small so surgery can be tricky.

When Nugget had some lumps my vet was happy and confident about operating - except we both decided the amount of body area covered would be rather a lot for surgery - it wasn't just one lump, it was multiple. I often wished I had tried the surgery when the main lump got bigger - but in the end it was the right decision as he developed more on his skin as well.

Thanks Hammie Heart. I've had to remove the first two links as they were sales rather than rescues. Little Bears Hamster rescue is a good find in the US :)

Let me recommend The Bunnyjackpot Foundation. The are so thorough about the level of care that there animals receive and are so helpful. They are amazing and really helped me make the best set up.
