You must be so happy to have him :) Assume you know it's best to leave them alone for 2 or 3 days to settle in? Which can be really hard at first!
Yeah definitely I will only be going in to change his food and water and clean any pee spots

Welcome home Reggie.

I am so happy for you. I know how excited you must feel now. :)

He’s gorgeous, you must be so excited to have him, congratulations! Well done with the journey Reggie, now time to relax and settle into your new home. Look forward to hearing more 😀

Aw he's decided that house is a good place to go already :-) He's probably ready for a nap.

Ive just poked my head into his room and he's burrowing already! my heart

update I'm sat across the room watching him and it looks like he's going into his multiple room house and burrowing from in there to the other side of the cage so things are looking good, he's been in his tube and hid a nibble of a gnaw toy, stared at me for 5 mins then tried his wheel

Sounds like he likes it! He may be a bit shy at first and stay under the substrate more, but as they settle in they can be out and about more.

Reggie’s mail today

it's his I think I over did it
Maybe just a little bit :)

A good size portion of fruit or veg for a Syrian hamster is a piece around 1cm cubed or a piece approximately the size of their ear. So in this case, I'd give him about half that of the apple and the strawberries.

he's out and about now so I'll take some out in the morning, I don't want to startle him

Yes. To give you an idea of what i'd call a hamster portion i just made one up.

And even that's more than I give for one hamster :-)

A piece of fruit or veg no bigger than your hamster's ear is a ballpark.

I would still take the dish out of the cage or he could end up with diarrhoea if he ate too much. Don't worry about disturbing him. It takes them a while to adjust to fruit and veg. So initially you'd give a tiny bit every 2 or 3 days then after a couple of weeks you can go to daily.

The other thing is he might pouch and hoard a lot of it and it go rotten. With the small piece, they eat all of it and don't hoard any :)

If he hoards or buries fresh food you could end up with fruit flies or maggots. They aren't harmful and easily got rid off by removing the source and surrounding area but something to keep in mind as you don't know Reggie's habits yet.

Homemade boredom breaker also I’ve removed the fruit there’s only 2 small strawb cubes and a small apple one with a few seeds
