Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

Are you sure he is an old boy? He is so handsome and looks so young and good.

Aw yay! So good to see some pictures of Raffy, really warmed my heart to see him out and about

Thanks all 😊. Raffy is blushing. He certainly seems to have all his hair and teeth even if he does have a “prostate” issue - or whatever it is.

Raffy was a little xxxxxx last night 🤣 I wanted to go to bed and couldn't find him for about 40 minutes. I was dropping. Normally he pops out quite regularly from whatever he's under. But he hid away. We looked under everything with a torch but still couldn't find him. I was beginning to think I'd have to go to bed and leave his cage on the floor. Then he wandered out. He is clearly good at hiding if he wants to. I can only assume this was because he was only out for about 15 minutes the night before and didn't want to go back to his cage too soon.

These photos are so gorgeous Maz, he really doesn’t look his age at all, pleased the vet visit wet as well as poss, hopefully the Metacam will keep anything at bay.

Maybe he’d nodded off wherever he was and didn’t spot the torch light action til he woke up, then he came out to see what was going on. It’s great he’s still looking to come out every night for his free roam ☺️

I did wonder if he might have nodded off somewhere. He could t be seen under any cupboards or the sofa with a torch but maybe he kept moving to different places 🤣

He's looking so well. Such a gorgeous little man. I bet he was hiding somewhere fast asleep. 😂

Probably. He's out again now. Hope he doesn't do the same tonight!

He’s doing it again. Not a sign of him. Again looked under everything with a torch and not a sign of him. Called his name lots of times, banged a few things.

I’ll give it a bit longer then I might have to just put his cage on the floor and go to bed.

I think this is since the vet came. He was examined/messed with by strangers in this room - his safe place. So I suspect that’s why he’s hiding away at night now - doesn’t trust me any more. He’s going to have to start going back in the playpen - once I find him!

So maybe a vet that comes to the house isn’t such a great thing.

Perhaps he will get back into his routine after a night on the tiles. Maybe he wants to stop you from going to bed.

OH found him about 2am. There is a separate strip of carpet behind a small sofa that gets ruckled when the sofa has been moved. It’s not visible as the ruckled bit is between the sofa and the cupboard Raffy’s cage is on and at the back. Must have been like that since Christmas when things were moved around. So it made a kind of tunnel hide. Everywhere else had been looked at so OH shone a torch under there and Raffy was sitting there and started to crawl out when the torch was shining in there. OH said he wasn’t asleep!

Before the vet came he would disappear off, come back to the middle of the room or the barrier looking for me. I could usually see him running or sitting somewhere if I looked.

Naughty boy.

Yes Lovelyness, they are very sensitive to changes in the environment. He was on his familiar floor and the vet picked him up and held him still while she examined him. A stranger came in his house and manhandled him and I let them!

It might have been similar if he’d been taken to a vet practice but then they usually hide away in the cage and don’t want to come out.
