Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

Yes he is now torn between wanting his tasty baby food and medicine and wanting to come out. I think I need to out the baby food and medicine out earlier. But then if I do that he scoffs it earlier and keeps me hanging around at night. Whereas if I put it out later he’s more likely to come out earlier but then keeps looking at the empty dish trying to decide whether to come out or not.

Sometimes I’ve given to him while out of the cage but then he thinks there’s something missing when he goes back in the cage! Ie wants more.

He’s currently pottering around the living room :-)

So nice to hear Raffy is doing well. Have fun little man, don't worry I'm sure your favourite food will be waiting for you when you get home.

He was a bit slow this evening but got going a bit after a while.

Just taken a short clip of him - sorry about my silly voice

Another short clip of him eating up his porridge and medicine when he went back in the cage. His age shows in his face which looks pointier. He ate it all up and went back to lick the plate clean :)

Omg. He's so cute in these. I'll try to add some of Cinnamon soon.

The first video commentary made me giggle, you could replace with my voice and 'girl' and it's the same conversation Jas and I have 😂
Raffy does enjoy that food

Glad it’s not just me :) Yes it’s nice he can have something he really enjoys in his old age. It’s slightly concerning as we’re going on holiday in August and wondering how he will be in two months time and whether he’d cope without me around. We do have a nice pet sitter though so usually he’s fine as long as someone comes in and keeps up the food routine.

Raffy carries his age good to see he still has a good appetite

Thank you Jain. He had that blip about 3 or 4 weeks ago when he seemed really off but then came round again and seems much better since being on Metacam.

Oh dear. I feel so mean. Before Raffy came out I decided to unblock his wheel again - which wouldn’t move as all blocked up with bedding again.

While doing that I saw the part of the mountain of Fitch furthest away from the wheel sort of moved a bit and I think Raffy is actually nesting under there further down.

Wheh he came out later he immediately looked as horrified as a hamster can look and went over and started digging and trying to sort out that area of bedding near the wheel. There is clearly quite a lot going on underneath all that. Which is why I was careful in pressing the odd bit down carefully in case he was underneath! Which he wasn’t.

So the only solution to stop messing up his mining project, is to move the wheel further along. Which I am a bit too tired to do tonight.

Raffy’s fitch mountain was even bigger last night! Wheel not working obviously as blocked. I decided to leave it alone and moved the wheel a bit further along the back bars so it was clear of the mountain. Of course the mountain might now start extending further! This meant moving his coconut hut slightly forwards and further over to make room for the wheel to be moved further along.

I did all this while Raffy was out of the cage. Wheh he went back in he noticed the coconut had moved straight away and gave me a hard look 😊.

Anyway hopefully he can actually use his wheel now but that mountain seems very important! I’m aware there is a burrow underneath it.

Raffy does like everything in the right place doesn't he

He is certainly very protective of that Fitch mountain!

Are there treats in that little ball? Haven't seen one like that before

Do you mean the hyacinth ball? It's part of this trio of balls. It doesn't contain treats, but you can stick treats under the folds which I occasionally do :-) They do have fun getting them out. Otherwise - he just seems to like it being there. It used to get moved occasionally :-) The hyacinth ball is nice and soft and chewable. I don't really use the other two. The wicker one is a bit scratchy but have used it for out of cage time. The Seagrass one I keep to unravel and use as safe string for tying things to the cage sometimes :-)

That's very cool, I have seen a number of wicker ones for sale here in the States but not that kind.
