Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

I can see he knows you’re there in the first one, he looks very sweet just rocking in his wheel in the second one, just chilling & watching his night time world!

In the first video it was like he was looking for you to let him out. In the second video he looked like he was surfing. :)

Ha ha - surfing. I suppose with his head bobbing up and down it might look like surfing! He really does like sitting and rocking.

Loved the videos but in the second one Raffy was rocking to and fro and looked so cute

He does look cute doesn't he.

Cheeky Raffy’s latest trick now is to make me jump. Last two nights and tonight I hear this bang. And think - what’s happened? It’s Raffy pushing over the file box again (that is blocking a gap at the edge of the barrier) to make a step to climb into the sectioned off corner.

Funnily enough he seems to wait after pushing it over - until I go over to see what’s happened. And find him sitting on top of the file box looking at me. Then he made an attempt to get over the barrier so I moved the file box and he jumped off. He watched me prop it up again then I could see how he does it. He goes behind it and pushes it over (it’s an empty file box) and there’s a big clatter when it lands in the hard area of floor.

And it makes me jump and think - has something fallen on him? He’s not that stupid - he makes sure it falls away from him by getting behind it.

I sometimes forget how clever hamsters are at moving things and pushing them out of the way. Technique rather than strength!

So it seems to be the nightly trick now.

So much for hamsters not liking loud noises! Raffy creates them and is unphased.

Raffy is having so much fun! He must think you make these barriers as some sort of adventure playground for him!
He is very clever, and very cheeky, I can just imagine his face when he mastered that one & now he just wants to keep doing it again, I wonder what he’ll come up with next if he gets a bit bored with this routine….

Raffy: I love my new game because it makes my Mum jump and come over to see me. Hehe.

Had a bit of a poke around in Raffy’s house tonight while emptying his toilet. It all seemed fine so I didn’t disturb his actual nest. So no moths or similar seen - instead we had a bat swooping around the living room which I didn’t like at all! It had been in the bedroom but came downstairs when OH came down to get something to catch it. Always have a children’s fishing net in the porch!

Bats are my second favourite animal! I love them. I hope it found its way outside.

Raffy looks happy on his saucer.

Yes it did find it's way outside - in a fishing net :)

Love the photo of Raffy.

I love bats too! Can’t say I’ve ever had one in the house though, glad you managed to catch it ok.

I have never seen a bat in person before. Clever idea to use a fishing net to help them outside.

Raffy is looking as adorable as ever. 🙂

I'm sure bats are nice outside but I'm not keen on them being in the house. They are very fast and unco-ordinated and swoop all over the place. It's the second one we've had this year. Although they're quite small they seem surprisingly large when flying around! Raffy was having his out of cage time when OH came down, closely followed by the bat. Raffy sat under the coffee table meerkating and looking a bit surprised at all the activity.
