Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

It wouldn't surprise me! It has been very effective in getting a lot of attention from me at least, which I think is what he wanted. I told him he was clever and beautiful a lot last night when he was running on his saucer and he seemed really perky at that.

Catching up with Raffy’s photos and antics. Glad he is settling down to fun free roaming again. It does seem as though he was upset at your absence.

Thank you Coco. He is still getting less out of cage time because I need to go to bed at night. But I'm trying to make it quality time.

Raffy thinking of jumping off the sofa tonight. He’d had his ears stroked and a cuddle for a minute or two and then was off and very speedy. Most of the photos were blurred he was so fast.

He was a bit nervous about the edge of the sofa so I lifted him down in the end.

This is a short clip of him from the nightcam a couple of nights ago - running through his tube

So cute to see Raffy explore the sofa and then go through his tube. 😍

Thank you Rainbow :-) I like it when he looks up at the phone camera :)

I also liked it when Raffy looks straight at the camera.

Raffy - put that phone down and help me get off the sofa.

I think you hit the nail on the head there Frida!

Raffy looked very tempted to jump off the sofa but then the human elevator arrived to take him to the ground floor.

Strangely he was thinking about jumping off the arm of the sofa and gauging the height, but he is still quite nervous of jumping off things. The atlas he got stuck on top of and was too nervous to jump and needed help off the other day was much lower. Maybe just under two feet tall (propped against the side of the stairs). He was definitely too nervous to jump off the sofa cushions which isn't that high really which is why he is pacing about a bit! But once they do it, they don't worry about it. Pickle just used to walk down the front of the sofa upside down using his claws to get down, rather than jump. I think for all his activity, Raffy is slightly cautious about jumping off things, which is good.

Just as well when you think about it! What Raffy could get up to if he mastered both getting up higher and then down again…

Yes he was even nervous of jumping off one of the file boxes on the floor that was on top of another one which was not very high at all. Having climbed up onto it he seeemed a bit stuck for a while and clearly didn't want to jump off so I had to lift him off there as well. But of course all this also gets him lots of attention! He definitely wanted to be on the floor again.

I would like to set him up an obstacle course throughout the room ha ha - like a kind of parcours but it's upheaval enough blocking off all exits from the room at the moment and not sure there's the floorspace without shifting furniture!

I might have a go at a small obstacle course though.

Great photos and video Maz, looks like he's having a lot of fun. Sounds like Raffy already has a pretty good parkour area with the sofa, curtains and box files. Hams has never jumped off the sofa, he just gets near the edge and looks, then reverses back.

Very sensible of Hams :)

Raffy seems very much back to normal and calmer. He now sits in his back corner again for a wash. He stopped doing that after the cage change but is back to doing it again. He ignored all the deep bedding at that end and just made himself a cosy corner. He’s running on his saucer near my feet under the coffee table at the moment. And is back to just general roaming and homing back to my feet area. Less maverick.

I think he knows something has changed in here and Pip is not here. And all the cleaning at that end of the room. I thought he looked quite pleased - almost smug!

Pip is in the downstairs bedroom temporarily.

Made me smile when you said Raffy looked "almost smug"

Raffy - at last I've got my mum all to myself.

I think he was thinking - ha that annoying robo can't compete with me for wheel running now. Raffy always has had most of the attention as he is more in your face and Pip hides away more. Which I feel slightly guilty about. But when Pip did have moments of being out and about he was quite interactive.

Raffy having some strawberry porridge the other night. Pip had some too.
