Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

It's so nice to see Raffy. He's having a good investigation. When he comes out of his MCH, he looks like he's saying I approve, then later on the cork log, when he looks straight at the camera, it's so cute

Aww, look at him gently exploring everything. It was cute when he climbed in the cork log and popped his little head out of it.

Raffy must be really happy to be back in his old cage, it’s a lovely video, he really is giving everything a very thorough check!

A bit more exploring with some sniffing and nibbling :-) This is still before his free roam and before he moved back in. Raffy has never been interested in sprays but he seems to like this one. And had a nibble of the dandelion root then checked out where the perspex stops and the bars start. This one is just under four minutes. I wasn't shining a light on him by the way - it's just when I moved from blocking the light, it got a bit brighter.

Last one - a short clip after his free roam when he moved in and there was food and bedding in there. He used his treat pot again to put some nice things in - a peanut and papaya cookie, some pumpkin seeds and a snapped off bit of the dandelion root :-) This one's just about 1.5 minutes.

A bit of food foraging and a bit of washing his paws to scent mark.

And this morning I found what looks like a tunnel under the wheel and possibly another tunnel. The nesting material had all gone - so not sure if he’s nesting in the house or under the wheel :)

Thank you all :-) Yes I think he suspected something was up the night before when I was hoovering spilled bedding in front of the cupboard with his old cage above it.

Have to say it's been a nightmare getting him down and upstairs from the upstairs cage in a tube. He tries really hard to get out and pushes hard! And carrying food and water up and downstairs. Also much nicer having him in the living room again.

Aw, it is lovely he has already made a tunnel. He seems so happy to be back to his bigger cage. :)

Lovely to see the Raffy videos. I found them very relaxing. I can't believe Raffy is nearly 2 years old. He still has a baby face 🐹💕

It's quite old! About 80. 40 years per hamster year. The calculation varies and some say about 36 years but I think 40 is about right. They are often looking older and maybe a bit doddery by two. Most of my Syrians have lived to about 2 years four months, but the first one lived to 2 years 8 months. So that seems about right - he would have been well into his nineties! The rare times one lives to 3 - they would be the equivalent of our centenarians.

Also with humans, it's after age 80 and during their eighties they seem to become more frail and that is usually the case with hamsters past the two year mark.
Interesting 👍🙂

Lovely videos and good to see Raffy exploring and settling back into his larger cage. The new set up sounds sensible so that you don’t have to change things again as he gets older. Hope he like his new multi chamber house though.

Great to see so much footage of Raffy, it was fun watching him explore his old home. He seemed pleased where everything was, the setup must have his approval

Frida - he doesn’t look his age does he? ;-). Doesn’t act it either! He has always been very lively so I think it’s just his personality.

Thank you Coco, ilguy and Rainbow :)

Lovely videos of Raffy back in his large plaza and to hear he’s back in his living room position which works better for you all. He looks very content exploring his new lower levels setup and so cute climbing in and out of his ceramic hide. Happy burrowing Raffy 😊😁

Thank you Zara:)
Here is Raffy with his Christmas stocking. He is more interested in getting off the sofa than getting the treats out of the stocking!

He eventually investigates the treats after having a snuggle in a dressing gown. I ended up taking them out and giving him one.

Bless him, he’s really enjoying the treat in his tube. I think he could definitely smell something yummy through the stocking, he looked excited whilst sniffing around it 🙂 and loved the way he was rubbing against the soft dressing gown, he always looks very cuddly.

He did stop for a little stroke on my arm as well :-). I was saying recently he isn’t really showing signs of ageing but I’ve noticed he is drinking a lot - which is common at this age.
