Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

Aw Raffy! He looks so sweet & innocent there, he does look cute & cuddly too!
It’s a shame out of cage time is becoming such a problem though, I hope you can sort something out that works for both of you although I think Raffy will always be looking for some kind of mischief to get up to!

Raffy looks cute I agree but perhaps he is also up and looking around for where he can get up to mischief next.

Tonight Raffy is a bit more normal. Still very active but less mega wild. Maybe he realised if he’s naughty he’ll get put back in the cage earlier. But he’s more his friendly self and responding to my voice and coming over my way now and then.

Lots of blocking off before he came out tonight. And he can’t get where he shouldn’t be now. He’s had a few goes at the stairs and can’t climb slippery melamine. He did end up on top of the giant atlas at one point after realising he couldn’t climb slippery paintwork at the edges as well. I had to lift him down as he seemed a bit stuck and nervous of jumping.

Here he is having a rummage around OH box files. Unfortunately the flash went off on my phone with the first photo which made him jump. It’s normally turned off.

Oh my, he is getting more adventurous by the day, look at him on the box files Love the photos of him sitting up, he really does look like a ninja about to par take in some karate moves. So handsome as well, love his colour.

So hear is little Raffmonster trying very hard to get up the stairs. I've got it sussed now. The melamine trays need to be on the second and third step where they can be wedged in better. So he can get up the first step but can't get past there. But he tried! He tried really hard to get up those melamine trays but they were too slippery.

Please excuse the terrible threadbare staircarpet. The stairs were due to be renovated before the pandemic started .............

Eventually he gave up and did some more free roaming and rummaging about and then went to sniff his wheel and have a run in it.

Really love all the photos, Raffy looks like he’s having a lot of fun in amongst the files & you can almost hear him thinking while he tries to suss out the stairs!

What fantastic photos! At first he looked like he has a new office job and was sorting out the paper work. I also really love the one were he is looking at the map like he is choosing his next holiday.

Thank you all He was lovely last night. Still full of energy and still determined to try and get up the stairs! But he did act more normally once he realised he couldn't get past all the barriers.

Raffy's life is back in order now so he's happy and relaxed again.

Raffy really does match the curtains. He is such a healthy little boy and so different to when you first adopted him.

I try to rescue hamsters that don't match the carpet but doesn't always work out that way.

Thanks all! It could indeed be interesting Beryl! He may be thinking of how to climb them. That is very close to where I sit so I can keep an eye on that. He did a lot of inspecting and although the front of the curtain is slippery material, he was showing interest in the cottom lining at the back.............but he knows I am right there and can see what he's doing.

There were a few more attempts at the stairs, which seems to be a game now. Although clearly he really wants to get past that barrier. When it goes quiet, I go over and there he is on the bottom stair attempting to scale the barrier. When he sees me he runs off again.

In fact I can just lift the curtains and push them on the window ledge which is probably better. The room looks like an obstacle course by the time I've blocked everything when he comes out.

I wonder if during the day Raffy dreams about how to get up the stairs. He is so cute and funny.
