So I got his new cage set up!! I’m so excited to make more stuff for him and to fill it. This is Mortie with his sister. I upgraded his enclosure from a 40x20x20 to a 48x20x20 and I know that’s not much of an upgrade but I really just wanted to make room for myself so I can get and make him more stuff. But anyways he is soooooo cute and I wanted to share his home. If you think that the wood cabin isn’t safe for him just lmk I’m all for some constructive criticism when it comes to my son BUUUTTTTT he does like it so far. We just re did his cage because I got him more stuff and he is a little explorer so I switch out the stuff in his cage once a month. And no I don’t move his main home and burrows. 🥰🥰

The enclosure looks very nice. Did you say he was with his sister? In the same cage? I couldn't make out from the photo. Not sure if I understood that, but you are aware that Syrian hamsters have to live alone or they will a) breed and b) kill each other?

oh hahah I mean the cat in the photo. I only have two pets. Yes I am aware. If I got another hamster I would definitely get another enclosure.

Oh sorry. So is that your cat looking into the enclosure? :-) Sorry to be a killjoy but you need to ideally keep the cat away from the hamster cage, it can really stress hamsters, smelling cat and having a cat look in on them - as they are prey species. Cats can sit on top of enclosures as well and scare hamsters. I'm sure your cat is lovely but it's an instinct - prey and predator.

No you’re not a killjoy at all it’s fair enough, I felt the same way when I first got him. I have been monitoring both of them for a while. I’m not sure if like he has no survival instincts or something but he doesn’t seem to mind her. She doesn’t sit on his enclosure, however she will come in say hi and stare at him and then leave. At first I was very strict about her in my room after I got him but now when she’s in the room he just eats in front of her and plays in his sand box. He is fairly happy and I think just a very zen hamster. He has not shown any signs of anxiousness or stress and has only ever hissed when I first got him.

Also she is NEVER in my room unless I’m there. I still don’t trust them to be completely by themselves.
