So, my hamster does not have enough bedding in his cage. I had bought 60lt of Chipsi classic a month ago, I think, but it still wasnt enough for the cage. I ordered more bedding and it arrived today, but I am confused on how to add more. Do I take him out of the cage with his stuff and put the bedding equally on all sides of the cage or just take some of his stuff and put the bedding on one side of the cage, which would cause a slope. He's currently asleep in his shoebox and I kinda dont want to disturb him. I have attached a picture of his enclosure below

Hi. I would wait until he's awake later in the evening. Or get him out later in the evening (maybe just before bedtime) and pop him in a pet carrier or playpen. You'll need to take the cage contents out - it's a good idea to take a photo first so you get everything back in the same place! They like the familiarity. I would also save/remove any paper nesting material around and in his house, and save the nesting area material to pop back in later. Then just add the new bedding on top of the old and mix it in so it still smells familiar.

At least fill the base to the top, but ideally then put some cardboard inside the bars at the end opposite his house and the two sides at that end, so you can have the bedding deeper/sloped at that end :-)

Then pop everything back in the cage - it really helps if it's all in the same location as before as they have little scent trails to find their way around and without the scent trails (which will have been disturbed by the bedding change) he will just need familiarity of location.

Pop all the nesting material back in the house and round it afterwards :-) They are very fussy about their nest scent.

And before you put him back I would hide a few treats in various places for him to find to distract him from the change and as a treat for the upheaval!
