Higgins

Higgins has stopped the acrobatics and exploring the cage after his first night - and after discovering his wheel :-) Wheeling is his new thing :-) He was in and out of his wheel all night last night. He seems to like the Bucatstate hide a lot, sits in there, then shoots back to the wheel. He also likes sitting on top of the cork log for a wash. So wheel, cork log, wheel, hide - and repeat - most of the night until about 6.30am. He has a water bowl and a bottle and seems to only use the bowl as far as I can see. His colour doesn't show up that well in the dark, but he's on top of the cork log on the left.

Aw - Higgins didn't come out in the evening last night (or tonight). I suspect that now he is in the mode of wheeling most of the night, he is pooped and sleeps later and coming out later. He doesn't seem that interested in food either. He leaves his bit of veg every night - sometimes there is a tiny bit nibbled off it. He was only picking at the food at first as well, but last night he pouched some food.

Here he is looking like he heard something, and then goes for a drink (his water bowl is at the back next to the Bucatstate hide).

Here he is eating and pouching his food - he looks cute sitting there

It's only been three nights. Hopefully he'll start appearing more again once he's setted in more.

So Higgins officially loves wheeling at night. He comes out not long after lights out (earlier than before) and is back to bed about 4.20am. He stops occasionally for a little snack. Perhaps he'll get more interested in veg when the novelty of wheeling wears off a bit! He doesn't eat it - except perhaps the tiniest nibble of it.

Blossom does the same...appears as I turn out the lights, then I can hear her in her wheel while I'm lying in bed before I go to sleep.

Higgins seems to be settling in nicely, so adorable! Toni also loves running on her wheel at night ❤️

Thank you :-) I'm counting the days as I'd really like to tempt him out but I know he probably needs at least a week. He's not quite in full hamster mode yet ha ha. He hasn't taken any of the toilet paper nesting material and doesn't quite get veg :-)

Aw, thats baby hamsters for you! 😁

He seems to be doing well, always great when they're so active. Maybe he will respond to a different treat? Curious what his favorite will be

Me too! He has ignored the whimzee, and the sunflower seeds stuck in the whimzee and the peanut and papaya cookie, and most of the veg! He did seem to like the half walnut I put out though :-)

Perhaps his tummy bacteria needs to diversify a bit more 🫘

Higgins is a beauty. Cant wait to see more footage of him.

Me too! It's only just a week since he arrived. I hope he appears more soon :-)

I have been away for a week so it will be lovely to catch sight of young Kulfi IF he comes out before lights out!

Hello Higgins
I love how Higgins looks like especially his mouth area. His head brown and mouth white, looks like Higgins drink some milk before

Aw ha ha. Milk round his chin :-)

I seem to remember that yellow hamsters are known for being a bit more bold than other colours. I guess we will find out!

I thought that too Tulsi - a bit maverick, but his breeder said that was a bit of a myth or maybe just one genetic strain. Anyway we will find out! He's eating all his veg now.

Congratulations Maz! Great videos of Higgins, he’s adorable and looks like he’s loving his new home, exploring everywhere and starting to find all his favourite places to be. He’s a lucky boy, look forward to seeing more of him 😊😊

Thank you Zara. He's only coming out after lights out still at the moment. It's two weeks this week-end since he arrived so if he's not coming out next week I might tempt him out :-)

Here's a video from last night of Higgins in his Sputnik :-) He seems to like it :-) I think he's starting to want to come out maybe as he looks like he's investigating exit routes again and the second video shows him looking out of the front bars. Most of the night though he's wheeling :-)
