Hello all,
I am so happy to have stumbled on this forum. The amount of hamster information online is endless and it is such a relief to have this community!
I am a graduate student and thought that having a little companion would help with the long work hours. And funnily enough, I used to research chipmunks. I have a fondness for small rodents (more than I'd life to admit) and it seemed fitting to get a dwarf hamster. Around a year ago I got Jojo, a roborovski. He was such a sweet little boy, but was also incredibly active. For that reason and my fear of crushing him, I would mostly watch him and he would occasionally step onto my hand for treats. Unfortunately Jojo passed around a month ago. Being my first pet, I am still navigating the guilt and sadness from not knowing what could have happened.
A couple days ago, I got a Russian dwarf hamster with the hopes that this little guy would be a little calmer and more receptive to pets and being held. He has yet to be named, I haven't quite found one that speaks to me. Maybe you all can help me with this: Do you know any cute Russian boy names for a hamster? A lot of the ones I've found seem a little too stiff and formal for a hamster, but maybe that's just me. I would love some suggestions.
I loved Jojo so much and I want to prevent anything premature from happening to my new little guy. I'm really looking forward to learning about training and care.
Best,
Claire
Here is a photo of Jojo just waking up from a nap and one of my new hamster trying out the wheel for the first time!
