Hello everyone, I've just joined the forum, I'm from Italy and I have a 5 month old male syrian hamster. His name's Topolino, which is "small mouse" in italian and which also the name of "Micky Mouse" here in Italy.
Topolino is a rescue from a local wild animals shelter and he's been with me only a week.
Before him I had a very sweet and very lazy male syrian hamster, who passed away in May. He too was a rescue, but I was fortunate enough to adopt him when he was only 26 days old, he was my baby.

Before these two I had a "dwarf" period, when I adopted 4 russian /winter white hammies over a 12 years time span. Again, all of the were rescues.
I only developed an interest in hamsters at a very mature age 🤓 which is highly unsual in my country because hamsters are unfortunately considered only second-rate childrens' pets.
I'll add some photos soon :hamstercool:

Hello! Glad you have joined us :-) I'm glad you rescued Topolino and he has a lovely new home - can't wait to meet him/see photos when you get the chance :-) I'm so sorry about your Syrian who passed away in May - they leave such a hole in our hearts - he sounded a very special little boy.

Many of us here developed an interest in hamsters at a mature age!

Hello welcome to the forum 🥰 looking forward to seeing some photographs of Topolino and hearing about all of his adventures 🥰💞💕💓 Ness

He's gorgeous :-) That little face on the first one! He looks quite curious and confident as well.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, this forum is great, I am not a Facebook person and I am glad a real, proper forum still exists! I am going to have a good look around to get to know you and your hamsters

I agree! :-) Some of us have a hamster's diary thread under the species section - where you post updates, photos, videos, latest antics etc and people can follow the hamster's progress and comment etc. You might like to start one under the Syrian section :-) You can call it whatever you want - eg Topolino's Adventures, Topolino's diary - or something else.

This is my Hamster's diary thread (Higgins) as an example
