Hamster taxi idea

I was thinking a good hamster taxi would be a tube with a lid with air holes on each end. You could have one lid on and when the hamster goes into the tube, pop the other lid on and then you can transport them to a playpen and remove the other lid. If only I was creative enough to make something like that.

I'm trying to follow that/imagine it :) I have this (for our Robo) with a tube attached to one hole. It lives in his cage. When he walks in I can just put my hand over the tube. And there's only one tube end to cover. I'm sure I didn't pay that much though. I took the middle piece out as well. It's on one of Pip's videos.

If it’’s just for a hamster taxi you don’t really need air holes, I’ve used a cardboard tube or small cardboard box, taped it closed at one end then just put my hand over the open end when transporting them, might depend how far you need to carry them I guess but for a short trip to & from the playpen or carrier it works fine.

Does Pip mind that it is transparent? I remember you saying to me a taxi is best when a hamster cannot see out of it.

That is a brilliant idea! I did not know that would be safe. I am going to try this as Orko has decided he does not like what I was currently using as a taxi.

I don't remember saying that :-) All my hamster taxis are transparent.

Yes a tube is fine and it's what I usually use. The problem I found with a fast robo is they shoot out of the tube before you get your hand over the end. which is why something longer and more contained works for me with Pip. At least initially. He did walk into a snooze cube last time.

I said I would get a jug and you said to make sure it was not transparent. I may have got confused though. I often do. ;)

You're right I did say that a solid jug might be better than a glass one - maybe that was because Orko was nervous at that time.

I used to use a pringles tube for my gorgeous long haired black eyed cream boy Arun. He eventually graduated to a large mug and would get very excited when he saw it and eagerly jumped in as soon as I opened his cage door.

That is so cute. A Pringle tube is ideal. :)

Thank goodness for Pringles tubes!

For Bernard i use a small hamster ball with the lid on while i carry him upstairs.

Lilly climbs into her Munchies mug to get carried next door.

Davy goes into a big porridge tube which i turn upright so he slides to the bottom and can't get out until i let him out.

Finley doesn't want out and Clive, Eddie and Otto don't need taxis.

Sometimes Albert wants his mug taxi but mostly he just climbs on to the palm of my hand.
