Hamster Cages 2026

Aw - I would wait until there's a better offer :-) And the elmo cage is lovely too :-) I've noticed in December, after black Friday, a lot of things increase in price and then they drop again after Christmas :-) It used to be terrible with childrens toys when stepson was younger. I remember buzz lightyear was usually £60 and never many discounts on that, but after 1st Decemver it would double in price! So I got in the habit of always doing Christmas shopping before 1st December!

Any latest views on the Omlet cage? I like the look of it, but it is a big enough area?
Hi. It's a very nice cage :-) I will leave others who have used them regularly to add a bit more (I've only tested one out) to add further comments but @Tulsi has one and is happy with it. As for whether it's big enough - the actual floorspace at substrate level is the same amount of floor space as inside a Savic Plaza. Actually very slightly more than that - it's just a different shape - less wide but deeper. With the base filled with substrate at least to the level of the perspex. Both are on the minimum size end of the spectrum - very slightly under 5000 square centimetres of floorspace - but a good size - although some depends on the hamster. If it's for a female syrian I would get something bigger. For most other hamsters it's ok. It is quite expensive, but there is less to buy for it as it already comes with a good wheel and two cardboard multiroom houses :-) Again though the wheel is 27cm - slightly under 11" - which is fine for an average syrian and for dwarf hamsters but a particularly large Syrian could do with something bigger than that. Rachels Got Hamsters on youtube also uses them for her dwarf hamsters.

Thanks, this is really helpful. We had a hamster a few years ago and my daughter's are pestering for another! I liked the Savic Aura 120 but cannot find in stock anywhere, so I think its either this or the Bucatstate 3

I know it is very annoying that Pets at Home have stopped selling the Aura 120. Scallywags pet shop still sell it in the Uk! They are in Croydon but they do shipping. The only other stockist in the Uk I think. Is it a Syrian hamster you'll be getting? If it's a dwarf hamster, I actually think the Aura 120 plexi is too tall for them, without a bit of adaptation - but that is possible.

If you phone Scallywags they can tell you the price and shipping costs. I think they were charging about £135 plus shipping

I’ve gone for the bucatstate. This forum has been very helpful - also ordered a recommended wheel. Yes, we’re going to get a Syrian. Probably the wrong thread now but any recommendations for cost effective bedding - seems like it’ll be very expensive to get c20cm deep! Thank you

I think it is too small for a Syrian, but fine for a dwarfie. It's difficult to get a large multi chamber in and the small MC houses don't have big enough doors unfortunately 🏡

Cost effective bedding is difficult! However - it is only really a high initial cost when you fill the cage. After that you don't go through that much for a long time. Personally I like to use the 70 litre bulk bags of Fitch (recycled food grade paper bedding). It's about £39 a bag (I'll link it below). One bag probably wouldn't quite be enough so you'd need two but I think you'd have quite a bit left over from the second bag which would then last a long time, as you then just "spot clean" mostly. After about 3 months you can then do a "third" substrate change - and even then you only replace about half what you move. Basically the more bedding you have in, the less often you need to clean out :-)

Although there is a larger bulk bag of fitch on the site it's not the same stuff! It's long stringy pieces - you want the 70 litre bag which is just paper pieces, not the long stringy stuff.

Is it the 100cm or 120cm Bucatstate you're getting?
