Hammy

I hope Hams enjoys his new treats.

Albert loves Mr Johnson mixed seed nibblets too.

I'm looking forward to seeing a photo of Hams attacking those!

I’m going to try and get one, love the way he holds the flax with his little paws.

Hi all, back in April I mentioned that Hams had a sore on his tail. It's still there 🫤 it dried up but then looked sore again and now it's dried up again (as he's let me touch it) but it does look a bit bigger now than before.

He's just his usual self so it doesn't appear to be bothering him but could I just be ignoring something that really needs a trip to the vet. I'm so undecided. I genuinely think a vet trip during the day will upset him more than my keeping an eye on it but what if I leave it too late and something happens that could've been resolved. I guess I need to look at it as he may get angry and stressed wt me but it's for the greater good. Think I've already talked myself into it. I need to call them tomorrow. Maybe I can get an appt that's earlyish one morning before he settles properly for day sleep.

I was also dreading the first vet visit and had convinced myself that it would totally stress the hamster out. It didn't.
As long as you make Hammy comfortable in a big enough transport box with plenty of bedding and a bit of food to forage for he'll probably go to sleep.
The examination shouldn't take long and the vet should be able to prescribe something for Hammy's tail.
I always take a flannel and some vets like to use them to pick the hamster up with..
I think a vet visit stresses us out more than the hamster.

I think it's a good idea to get it checked. I actually think vet visits are stressful for hamsters - some more than others, but they get over it in 2 or 3 days.

I hope the vet appointment goes well & it isn’t anything too serious to worry about.
I haven’t found any of my hams to be overly stressed by vet visits but they do vary, even if it does stress hams out a bit I’m sure he’ll soon get over it.

I think getting Hams checked out by a vet is a good idea. I hope all goes well 💕

I am sorry to hear this. I hope you can get a vet appointment soon.

Just chatting on Lilly’s thread about her missing free roam hoard reminded me of what Hams does each evening so thought I’d share……….. As we mostly use a playpen here and I’ve only got Hams, he hides everything in his tissue box that he collects. Then when he wants to go home he comes to where I sit and just constantly looks up, I say “does Hams want to go home” several times and pop his travel jug down and he then heads off to pick up anything he’s found that he wants to take, returns with pouches full and walks into his travel jug. It’s a proper little night time routine, but I do think he’s very clever and definitely understands me, it’s super cute. I’m convinced he also understands the word No as well. When he’s in his pen if he’s being cheeky and trying to chew the pen and I say no, he looks over at me and then scurries off, he’ll comeback but looks around like a child to see if I’m watching. My OH thinks it’s really funny and just eggs him on to keep chewing 😂

Vet Appt Update : I’ve had a stinker of a migraine over the past few days so vet appt got moved to this coming Wednesday.

They asked me to send in a photo and just by luck, the senior nurse happens to keep hamsters herself and is going to be there when I bring him in as they said they do not see many hamsters. Hopefully they’ll be able to help. Will update later next week.

The story of Hams storing his food in his tissue box and then looking at you to take him home is so cute! reading that made me smile.

Sorry to hear you are suffering with a bad migraine. The humidity makes migraines so much worse. I really hope it goes soon.

It is reassuring to know the nurse who will be at Hams appointment has experience with hamsters. I hope it goes well.

I love Hams little routine 💕

I hope you are feeling better 💕

I hope all goes well for Hams at the vets 💕

Had to smile at Hammy’s antics, he’s a clever boy1
Hope it goes well at the vet on Wednesday.

Loved that story about Hams hiding his goodies to take home.
He really is a clever little boy and so cute as well.

Sorry to hear you get migraines. I used to but found the cause.

Hope all goes well at the vets.

Me trying to catch a photo of Hams enjoying his new Flax sprays, but by the time I open the door, I get caught red handed and he stops. You can still see one paw holding onto an empty stem 🤣

A little photo from the other side where I placed a second one. Yum he's thinking. Thanks Mum, these are kinda special 😀

The expression on Ham's face in the first photo is priceless! He has that "can't believe that human just interrupted me" look on his face. He's unbelievably cute. Like a little cuddly toy.

He is such a beautiful hamster :) How funny he stops if he thinks you're looking! I wish Raffy was interested in sprays!
