hi! Our Syrian buddy has been using his sand bath exclusively for all of his 4 months with us. A few days ago I put in a new litter box of birch chip substrate in between his wheel and sand box to add some enrichment to his enclosure.
i watched the video from that night and It turns out he was afraid of the wood chips and didn’t use the sand box that night, but instead started to pee in his Peep shed/nest. I took the wood chip box out the next morning and the following morning I cleaned out his nest. I put some pee stained bedding into the sand box to try to encourage him to return there (it had only been one night of not using the sand box). Then last night he peed in his coco soil dig box instead of the sand box. He still looks a bit tentative around the sandbox do I put some of his discarded bedding next to it and a little more pee smelling bedding in the sand box.
is there anything I can do to encourage him to use the sand box again? I’d rather not move things around too much if I can help it as it will disturb his nest and he’s been so good about using the sand box up until now.
Thank you!!!
