Flower Power

The poppies really are looking good still (mine have all been beaten down by the rain!) with a bit of warmth those seed pods will soon be exploding everywhere!
Good to see the fuchsia flowering well too, mine has finally started to flower well now, & good to hear that Maestro’s pinks are still in bloom.

The rain has done the same thing here, elusive. The poppies are much lower and the fairy fishing rod plants stand out taller now. Maybe the thick tangle of poppies has provided mutual support! They have been pushed forward though towards the grass but still looking pretty.

Very pleased to hear that your fuschia has started flowering. H looked at ours after I took the photo this morning and cut off a section of the main stem about a foot long as he said it was dead and getting worse. Some of those flower stems are very slender indeed. Maybe it it more frail than I realised.

I hope your fuchsia will be ok, it might just be old growth dying off & being replaced by new growth which will hopefully thicken up with time, I usually cut mine right back each spring & it grows back quite strongly, just a bit late after a cold winter.

After last winter I did cut ours right back in Spring to help it recover. Is there any benefit in a partial cut back in October say to remove some of the very slender stems? Those at ground level that will do nothing to help over the next 6 months. Then the proper cut back next year?

I wouldn’t think so, it might just make a bit more vulnerable to frost damage, it’s probably better to wait until spring then cut back quite hard.

Thanks very much for that advice elusive. I will do the same thing then and not interfere until the Spring.

Just popped outside and found a new arrival since yesterday when it was still closed up!

This is what I meant about Maestro’s pinks trying hard.

Beautiful rose!
Maestro’s pink are looking good, that’s really come on well.

Thank you. It’s nice to see some plants have survived and are doing well.

Maestro's pinks have really come on well. It's a lovely rose.

Last Friday’s rose has now gone but several buds were waiting to open and have now done so.
Lovely little collection of them even this late in the year.

It's had babies! Seriously it's a beautiful rose. Mentioning "this late in the year" has reminded me it has started to feel like Autumn at times here recently - a feel in the air. Summer is just not long enough. Middle of August and it starts feeling backend-ish. And usually by the end of August, the hamsters are aware of the extra coolness in the air and starting to build big nests for the winter.

The weather here has actually got warmer here this week though that wasn’t hard! Also warmer ahead for a few days.
Had to put some more water in the pond and poured it carefully as I saw a little head peeping up and managed not to alarm it at all. 🐸

That group of rose flowers is lovely Coco, I don’t mind things being late as it carries us further into the season & it’s not all over too soon!

It’s a lot warmer here too, not very sunny or summery really but much warmer than it was.

It has come a bit warmer here the last couple of days but cloudy and the evenings have been a bit chilly.

My garden’s been looking a bit sad with all the endless rain but Zak’s plant has clearly been enjoying it, i’s grown so much I had to move his wings before they disappeared completely! More flowers now too.

Zak’s plant look lovely and healthy now and with the flowers too.

Rain here battered the yellow roses so nothing is left.
