I'll get some tofu tomorrow. They are all due some. I gave Finley a yippee, he likes those as a treat now and again.

I sat in front of his tank for ages, thinking. It's tough for me to imagine that he was a child's pet till the child got fed up with him. I think that may explain why he is not keen on humans, especially me.

My OH told me again last night when he came upstairs that Finley was up and running around. I double checked that he was talking about the small one downstairs. Yep, that's the one.....

Lol I can see why you thought your OH was mistaken. I dread to think what the child put poor Finley through. He is so sensitive and likes to be alone and I bet he never got any peace.

Aw glad he is doing ok. Yes treats might cheer him up! Robos can get very raggy and ropey looking as they get older - it's just the way they are.

Finley is still round but i know what you mean by raggy and ropey looking.

With Rodney sadly gone i now have an empty coffee table in the lounge.

My OH tried to feed the coffee table with porridge this morning and i went to talk to it when i came in from work.

I have a Kerry terrarium in the greenhouse which is a little bigger than the foster fish tank Finley lives in.
I can't make up my mind whether to move him or not. He seems happy in the small tank and hates being out of it but he may appreciate a bit more space.

Same room but different location.

This is so tricky as Finley really hates any change. I feel he seems really happy and content so he may not want more space.

Hmm, yes it could be a bad move to move him. He's around 19 months old which makes him the oldest now.

I know what you mean about trying to feed the coffee table - it's hard to remember they're not there. I don't think the Kerry is a particularly big upgrade, personally. If you were going to upgrade Finley then something a little bit bigger might make the change accepted more. As an example, I upgraded our first Robo, Nugget from a Kerry to a Savic Mickey 2XL (Hamster Heaven size) and it worked much better. It doesn't sound that much bigger on paper - 5cm bigger all round, but it did make a huge difference to the amount of useable space, and the interaction. Nugget loved that cage and would sit and listen to me at the open door (he was one who never did try to jump out!).

Maybe some working out to do - who to upgrade to what. The Kerry is nice - I just found it frustrating. The sides are straight which has it's pros for fitting things in - but that's why the Mickey 2XL felt so much bigger - because the bars expanded the size of the actual base, if that makes sense. You could fit more in. The main reason I did it though was I hated the top access on the tank! You might be ok with that. Nugget was also a very nervy robo and hated the top access too (and the noise it made).

19 months isn't that old for a Robo - technically they can live up to 5 years, but I think the lifespan is usually similar to that of other hamsters. So if he seems happy in his current tank, then maybe that would be best to leave him where he is. On the other hand, the Kerry would be a similar type of cage if they're both tanks and maybe slightly bigger. So it could be an easy transition and could be worth it (saving the Hamster Heaven for a different hamster (maybe you're thinking Bernard?).

So I can see why you're thinking of moving Finley to the Kerry! It's similar to his current cage but slightly bigger I assume? I think he'd adapt to that fine. So ignore what I said above lol. I was thinking on paper.

I have decided not to move Finley because the Kerry isn't much bigger than his tank.

I've put the Kerry on the coffee table but swapped location with my desk. It's better suited as a foster cage than a barred cage because it's colder downstairs than upstairs.

The rescue is currently full so i would foster again until a space becomes available.

The Hamster Heaven is upstairs now and i will set it up as i go to hopefully move Bernard in it in the new year. I need to watch him for a few weeks to find out what he does and likes. I'd place the HH on a dolly trolley like Scottie's at first to see if he'd jump out the big front door before moving him on the table.

And a big cushion on the floor :-) (Which is what I have).

I am sure Finley would approve of this. He sounds very happy in his tank.😀

Beryl, Finley and Orko really are soulmates because Orko just popped out and had a drink!

I think Orko may come out more regularly during the day now he's a bit older :) That has been my experience with robos usually - they grow in confidence and have a different pattern as they grow up. They can come out a couple of times in the day sometimes or be out for a while in the afternoon but then not come out till later at night. I used to love seeing Nugget out and about in the afternoon.

I've seen Finley a few times the past couple of days. I wonder if he knows that Rodney is no longer with us.

I don't think Finley could smell Bernard because they both live in tanks. He must be able to hear Bernard on his wheel at night though and they have the same type of wheel (different colours so i won't get them mixed up).

I'm off to collect an unwanted dwarf.....

That is interesting. I wonder if in his own way he is trying to comfort you.

I look forward to hearing about this little dwarfie.

Saw Finley twice today and went over to chat to him. He looked me straight in the face for a few seconds and then walked off.

I think he knows his name because i've always chatted to him or his tank rather.

I've always repeated a hamster's name a lot when talking to them and found that they soon learn it.

It is wonderful he came out twice and even acknowledged you!

I wouldn't say that he was pleased to see me but it is flattering that he even looked at me.
