That is an interesting coloured sputnik! It looks gold! I haven't seen that colour before. I'm sure he'll love that.

It is gold and i had it for ages. Rodney had it in his Alaska with the same tube run when he was young and fit like Cedric.
Cedric came out of his house to check what i was doing, had a drink and stuffed his pouches to the brim with toilet paper strips. And then he gave me quite an intense stare before going back into his house. Like Lilly he has red eyes and they are rather effective in giving 'looks'.

Cedric's been running through the purple tube and seems to like the extra space to go. He's as agile as a rat and very fast.
I don't think he's been handled or had out of cage time much going by his current behaviour which i'm very familiar with.
He jumps and leaps about almost as much as Clive did when he first arrived. I can pick him up from my lap while he wriggles which is a huge step in the right direction. He's not a nervous hamster and will calm down eventually.

We need to clear the small room used for storage (or hoarding in OH's çase) to create a space in the hamster room for a bigger cage for Cedric.
That's not going to happen in a hurry but needs to get done before the colder months.

It will also give me the chance to find a good second hand Plaza and add a top door or possibly get the Plaza 120 new which is only 2 hrs drive away.

In the meantime i'll observe Cedric to find out what he does and doesn't do like pee in his toilet!
Too soon to check where he pees which is presumably inside his house because i don't see him at all during the day.

If it turns out that he needs an ensuite, he'll need a bigger house so i'm looking forward to hear how little Davy gets on with his new house.

I am hoping it will come by the weekend Beryl then I will paint it! So will let you know I really hope he likes it 😁

You mentioned the Ferplast Rabbit house on another thread. I have used that before - before I got a labyrinth house. It would work better with rooms in or they just pile everything up and can't get to the door! I ordered one for Raffy originally and you may remember it had to go back as was very splintery all over - but maybe that was bad batch on a Friday. The multiroom houses tend to have the door in the middle with rooms either side which works well - I found the door at one end didn't work so well with a larger house. But there may be a way of partitioning it!

Cedric sounds like a very energetic bundle of fun. He did have a look of Raffy I thought! Something about the expression that seems maverick!

I wouldn't buy the house online because i like to have a look at it.
What kind of room layout works in your experience?

Actually some of the getzoo labyrinth houses have a door at one end - they then have a “corridor” leading from that with an entrance off it into the main area. The only thing is - the door is very large on the rabbit house - but a large “corridor” could be big enough to fit a litter tray at the back. So partitionwise you might only need the one partition for the “corridor “ with an entrance cut in it part way along to lead into the main sleeping/hoarding area. I used it for Charlie for quite some time without any partitions and a bendy bridge over the door. But much prefer the multiroom houses - however they are expensive.

A cardboard multiroom house could be an option though.

The one that’s in the current Rodipet house I have for both Pip and Raffy. If you weren’t going to have a top door you might not need it as big as the right hand room just leads to the top entrance really.

So mine are - entrance hole with small partition that leads through to a bigger partition behind it. Then on the left side of that bigger partition is an entrance through to another large partition. That partition is the one where they normally nest as it’s round two corners so darker inside. The one at the back - beyond the main entrance , is where they normally pee and where I put the litter tray - I think it’s because it’s easy access from the nesting area. From the small entrance section there’s a door on the right that goes into another large compartment with a partition near the back end leading to the rooftop hole. The whole of that right hand side hardly gets used - except as an entrance and exit.

Probably easier to show a photo!

But see above!

This is the layout I meant with the door at one end. I was always tempted with this labyrinth house but don’t like the narrow pointy doorway under the ladder - I’m sure a hamster would end up with fur rub going in and out of that!

Corridor and one main compartment. The smaller version house (second link) has the better layout though.

This is a picture of the layout of the one I have - it’s not sold by Rodipet any more.

Front left nesting, middle back toilet. Right side ignored except to access top door. The door placements and compartments are so it’s dark inside.

It’s actually 42cm x 26cm x 8cm tall.

Thank you for that Maz.
I'd probably make the partitions from thick cardboard at first to find out what he does with it and add wooden ones later.
The rabbit house may even be high enough to use without stilts. Must go and have a look at one.
There is a pet shop where i'm working tomorrow that sells a multichamberhouse.

Sorry I wasn’t more concise. Yes it is tall and doesn’t need stilts - I used to have it stood on the bottom of the cage base and fill the inside with substrate just leaving enough room for a low house insyde and have substrate round the outside so it’s half submerged basically. That also makes the door less large. And that was with 6” of substrate. If the substrate is deeper than that it would need to be on legs. However it does mean they can’t tunnel under it and it’s restrictive in depth for burrowing. Which is partly why I got the lower labyrinth house instead so there was more substrate under it.

It makes a big house but has its restrictions.

Cedric is just like Lilly jumping up and down like a yo yo inside his taxi.
