I measured the grey 150l B&Q box which works out at 660 square inches floorspace. Roughly the same as a 80cmx50cm Hamster Heaven.
Too small for Eric and a little too big for Eddie.
It would make a good bin cage for a healthy dwarf or Robo, in my opinion anyway.

I'm thinking aloud again and don't expect people to come up with answer. Always interesting and often helpful to get other hamster peoples take on things though.

Eric is fine and has been racing around for a while. Now and again he comes to me, puts his paws on my legs and then runs off again.
Looking forward to hearing how he adjusts over time.

Syrians seem to be amazing climbers wonder what he did when he reached the top my sil Syrian used to turn around and come back down then repeat
He tried to climb the bookcase to get over the stair barrier. I removed the barrier and he run into the hamster room.

Same here. He was on a trolley in the lounge because i didn't know what to do with him and still don't.

Today i've moved him into the hamster room but have no idea how this is going to pan out. It may calm him to be near me when another hamster freeroams or it could make him and his bar chewing worse because he wants my attention.

I also don't know how Otto will react who is a calm hamster but Eric's noise may wind him up.

It's trial and error at the moment while i try to figure out Eric's housing needs.

Oh wow, only just seen Eric on the stairs, he made It look easy! Fingers crossed for the move and that everyone remains settled. 👍

Tonight went well and Eric had a lot of freeroaming time. He seemed a little calmer and was easy to pick up. No wriggling and he looked relaxed when i held and stroked him.

Lulu was obsessed with chewing carpet as you know Beryl. She would never use any of her toys and run straight to the corner of the room the minute I put her down, to chew another hole. She always wanted out of cage time but never interacted with me.

Davy on the other hand, runs round like a loony and has a go on everything. He does peek out from behind things like your Eric. They do look very similar! 😍

I am sure he will calm down soon. They are very complicated little creatures aren’t they?

Also I guess with rescues you will never know how badly they were treated before. It must have an effect on them.

Yes, Davy's and Eric's behaviours are quite similar and both had a rough time before they were rescued, especially little Davy.

Eric chewed quite a bit of cardboard last night after i had gone to bed. When OH is away next, i'll sleep in the hamster room to find out if he chews the bars a lot or not. I'd be within sniffing distance though so may not get a true picture.

It can be difficult to work out their needs and read into their behaviours.

Cashier at Aldi looked at my trolley and said: found a bit of cardboard then?

I like the big sheets of cardboard not the boxes.
The sheets are easy to cut to size for lining bars in Eric's cage and splash guards for Otto.
My stash is stocked up now. Only hamster people understand the appeal of a box of cardboard.

That's good to hear
