Thanks! I just saw Dusty is still up and wandering around the cage. It is 1pm here. I am kind of surprised he is up at this hour. I didn't put any fresh carrot in his cage this morning, maybe he is looking for it. LOL!

Maybe he is :) They often do get into habits of waking when food regularly appears at a certain time.

I don't know if you've ever seen this clip before, but it's from a BBC programme about Roborovski hamsters in the wild :-)

Thank you so much for sharing that clip!

Your dog looks very relaxed :) I can see now. I think Dusty's cage will be fine on the table with the white legs. The main thing is that a cage isn't directly under a window in direct sunlight or it could get too hot or too draughty :) Hamsters are asleep most of the day (not always robos) and mine have got up in the evening in summer and light from the window hasn't bothered them when they're awake. They will still have their "main hamstering" time at night in the dark and almost go into a different mode then.
Yep, Shatter one of our dogs is passed out. LOL! The other dog, just off the photo is also asleep on his dog bed. Thanks for confirming that Dusty's cage should be ok on the table I got for the cage. Now, I am so disappointed, Amazon just messaged me that the cage is delayed two days! I don't know what happened. The shipping history said it made it all the way here to the Phoenix area this morning at 6am, but now at 4pm it is delayed in transit. :( So poor Dusty will have to wait a couple more days than I thought. I am sure I am more disappointed than he is. LOL!

Well I just got my medium cork round from ZooMed and it showed it to be about 8 to 12 inches long. The one they sent me is 17 inches long! It isn't hollow as it is filled with loose bits of cork. I have my wood in the oven now. It also had some light cream colored blotches. It looked very dry. I don't think it is mold, looked more to me like dried Lichen on the bark. If I can get it hollowed out it will be a great tunnel for Dusty!
I am still disappointed about my cage being delayed. I just hope I actually get it.

Well Amazon surprised me and they delivered my cage this evening. I got it put together and will start trying to arrange things in it and send pics tomorrow. :)

Oh that's good the cage arrived. I know these things are exciting :-) The dried on lichen on the cork log is normal and will be no harm. It seems strange it is stuffed with cork. Is it loose cork it's stuffed with or is it actually a solid cork branch? If it's a solid cork branch, I wouldn't rinse, it just bake it. I had a solid cork branch once and steamed it and it went mouldy because it was so dense it never did dry out properly. 17cm is ok - maybe a bit longer than you wanted but I'm sure you'll find a good place for it. If you clear the centre I'd give it a good rinse and soak in really hot water and then bake it.

Thanks, Maz. The cork log is not 17cm....but 17 inches! Over 43cm! It is a big log. The log is not completely solid. It is mostly open but in the middle of the log it has a solid blockage. We tried to knock it out, but it is connected to the inside of the log. So I am wondering if it is safe for Dusty as it looks just big enough for him to get in, but not to turn around in. Also there is a small opening through that blockage and I don't want him getting stuck in there. I don't know what to do with that log. I think I might have my son cut it into two pieces and possibly work on hollowing it out. It is a nice piece of cork log.

I think cutting it in two sounds a good idea.

Oh my goodness!!! As I am preparing the new cage I am to the point of needing to add some of Dusty's current bedding on top. So checking to make sure he isn't up and about because I didn't want to scare him. I didn't see him so I thought I would take some of the top bedding while he was sleeping. So I quietly removed part of the lid and as I did out dashed Dusty from inside the house and he just stopped and looked at me. I talked to him quietly and slowly put my hand into the cage about an inch and a half away from him and he slowly came to my hand and sniffed it!!! He never ran away! I was so amazed! So I slowly put the lid back on. I am so happy he wasn't too afraid of my hand!

Aw that's lovely :-) Make sure you have a treat to give him next time :ROFLMAO:

Anyway this is the new cage so far. Any input is appreciated. I am not done as I have to put his current bedding in and fill the dishes and place the decor and sprays around. There are platforms under all the dishes I just filled in around them with bedding. Let me know if there is any danger here or any improvements I can make. I have no idea what I am going to do with the grape vine and cork I have but I will work on that and show you as well. Thanks so much everyone! I might swap the wheel and that white dish, not sure yet. Or I might use a smaller dish there.

It's looking good :-) The spaces will be where you can fit the other items. The ceramic dish on the right next to the wheel - is that just partly supported by the wheel platform, or is there another platform underneath it? Likewise is the strawberry hide on a platform? Actually it might be good to have the strawberry hide inside the glass sand dish - they often like a hide in their sand dish.

I think I might have the ladder that's on top of the house, somewhere else. It's likely to slide around on top of the house. Unless you have some kind of hemp mat on the house roof.

That's a really good start.

Thanks so much, the ladder I forgot to move...it is not staying there. Yes there is platform under all the dishes and the strawberry hide. Here is a pic of it before bedding went in. I was playing with ideas and the platforms are like this under the bedding and bedding is stuffed under all the platforms. Also I am finding I may not need as many bridges as I was anticipating.

That looks very well thought out :) It's up to you where you put things after you have the platforms are in place :) It can be handy to have a spare bridge not used straight away anyway as it's only when we see them using the cage we can see what they do and where an extra one might be needed. For example my robo ignored the ladder (long way round) and tried to just pull himself up onto a platform from near his water bottle (easy quick way) but couldn't quite make it so I had to add a little bridge there. It's better to add something extra later, than to move something that's already in there as they can get a bit stressy about things being moved when they've got used to them.

I can't wait to see everything else in it :-)
