Draco is a girl!

So I’ve been noticing Draco doesn’t have male parts. Sure enough, I’m thinking Draco is now a girl! I’ve had him (or her) since April and am just now noticing this! I’m going to get him (or her) a vet appointment when I get paid for a checkup and to get their nails trimmed!

I’m in shock!

It's not really possible (for me) to tell from the photo because of the way Draco is sitting.
It's not uncommon for pet shops to get the gender wrong. I've rescued a number of mis sexed hamsters.
Boy or girl, doesn't really matter. Draco is a little cutie.

I’m going to take him or her to the vet to make sure.

I agree!! either way, they’re a sweetie and so cute!!

If you could get more photos when Draco isn't sitting we should be able to tell you.

You said that Draco is due a nail trim and going to the vet for that so you'll have to reregister a female hamster, haha.

I haven’t been able to take him yet since I had emergency surgery- but i’m hoping after I heal this week I can take him in! (i’m not allowed to drive yet)

Poor you, don't rush into anything and give yourself time to heal.

Draco will be fine. Isn't Draco a young hamster? I'm only asking because nails usually grow long in older Syrians.

he’s a younger hamster. He just didn’t have anything in his older cage to play with or anything. Not even a wheel! only one little hideout that you could see through.

Oh poor Draco it's horrible to think there are hamsters out there with nothing to play with it surely must be ignorance because cardboard tube cost nothing and boxes can be made into interesting hides people should not breed and sell hamsters without giving information on basic care and needs most pet shops now are pretty clued up well the one I've bought toys from seem to be sorry about the rant just a subject which upsets me

He/she has a lovely fluffy skirt I can see the dilemma due to the skirt. Due you have a photo of him/her from the top, to see the shape of the back end? It's hard to tell from the photo if there are testicles or if it's just more skirt fur. But I think probably female.

I will try to get a photo of that! Here is another picture of him/her from the back as well. Can’t really tell anything cause of the skirt!

I see what you mean! I think she is female. Males tend to have long hair all over. Face shape can be different with males and females too - do you have any more photos?

There is an unusual dark line underneath - do you know if the hamster has had surgery at any time?

Can you see/feel any nipples on her underside? There should be a line of them down each side underneath. On photo 2 though it does look a bit like a protrusion where testicles would be but it's hard to see from the photo if that's just part of the coat tail.

Now I think he's a boy! The first photo does look like testicles, and males tend to have bigger skirts. His face looks more boy shaped as well somehow.

To be honest if I wasn't 100% sure I would keep the name and in my head he would be whichever sex I want him/her to be, honestly I don't think Draco will care either way so long as he's loved for his/her personality

Draco is gorgeous, what fantastic fluffy fur, they look very friendly and comfortable with being handled too.
