Adding some new treat things might perk up his interest. It was when Charlie got old I added things like the hyacinth ball to stick treats in and those rosewood wood vegetable things (they smell nice).

Sorry to hear Clive seems to be declining Beryl, they do all age differently & some more quickly than others so I don’t think knowing exact age helps much anyway.
They are so sensitive it could be that he’s pining a bit or just disturbed by the loss of his room mate.
A little bit of a change up of clean might help a bit.
I can’t remember now did you ever try the evening primrose oil for his fur loss? It does have other benefits too so might be of some help now.

I forgot all about the evening primrose oil tbh but had a look for the drops for dogs today. Did you buy them online or at a vet's?

I checked through Clive's substrate today and replaced poopy one with fresh but left his house alone. He looked out so i told him its only me and talked to him for a while. He responded with a couple of squawks, probably telling me to shut up and went back to sleep! He trusts me alright.

I have slightly changed his set up and made it a bit busier. He'll let me know tonight what he thinks.

Aw hello Beryl - squawk - go away. Lol. I think he'll enjoy investigating tonight. Will he have one of your nice treat trees?

I am looking forward to hearing what Clive thinks of the changes. Maybe get an umbrella ready for missile cover in case he is not happy.

How is Clive doing this evening?

Clive didn't chuck anything about so it looks like he approved of the slight changes.
He was quite active tonight and freeroamed for a couple of hours. He nibbled the seeds off his tree and has gone to bed.

I was just tidying up the toys when Eddie demanded to get let out. He attempted to monkey bar but didn't get far. He's not that agile and goes splat and i mean splat. He goes flat like a frog with the paws sprawled out. He loves freeroaming now and runs around.

My OH told me that Clive was very grumpy this morning. He called Clive for his porridge and Clive stuck his head out of his house squawking loudly at him. Clive walked across to his porridge squawking all the way, pouched the lot and went straight back to bed.

I told Clive about Otto earlier and let him sit at sniffing level of Otto's cage.
Currently they are both running around with the devider up.
I expect the new scent will give Clive something to sniff at later.

I am so curious to see how Clive reacts once he realises Otto has moved in.

Yes it will be interesting. It might perk him up or he might feel jealous. Good idea to get another Syrian though, if he was missing Jack. And surrounded by dwarfs lol!

Clive was up and out at 18.00 today. Tried to get a photo but he's too busy running around.
He was like that when Jack was alive and always wanted to be the first one out.

Lilly was out in the afternoon and i heard an annoyed screech a wee while ago when i opened her door to put her fresh food in.

And now Otto is up as well.

It sounds like Clive is much happier now Otto has moved in. How lovely.

It certainly does sound like Clive has more motivation since Otto arrived! That is excellent. It reminds me of when parents get an identical looking hamster for a young child after one has died and then tell the child - he came round again! Not the same obviously!

It’s getting busy then!
Lovely to hear how Clive has perked up again now.

It warms my heart to know Clive's mood has picked up. I was worried about him. 🐹💕
