I have been wanting to prepare a dig box for Topaç as I think he could be getting bored since he doesn't have many things to do in his cage besides dig in his sand box and run on his wheel(he's not that interested in burrowing or chewing). I heard coco soil is commonly used in dig boxes. There is only this brand of coco soil sold online:

My main concerns about are:
1. It says terrarium humus on the box and the description says that it provides a moist environment for frogs. Wouldn't it be too wet for a hamster?

2.The product isn't always available. I have been following this product for a while and it routinely goes out of stock and stays out of stock for months. If I gave Topaç this and then Took it away when it got dirty, would he get stressed?

If it is moist, you can dry it out in the sun if you spread small amounts thinly on a tray. Some hamsters like it but some don't. I have heard that it has a high salt content, but I'm not sure about that ❤️

I looked it up and only found things about salt in coco coir. I also found this etsy listing that has different substrate options, but it is from abroad so the shipping and taxes could make it expensive to buy regularly. There is also the option of buying CHIPSI extra beech chips, which are locally available. Did you have any hamsters that liked beech chips?

I don't use it personally - it's tricky to find it not too dry and not too moist. Too moist and it encourages mould and mould spores in an enclosure. I think you can get hamster safe peat soil. Or you could have a dig box with cork granules or torn up pieces of cardboard - for a dig box they tend to just like foraging for things in it - so cork granules and torn up cardboard pieces are fine for that. If it's actually for digging then just deeper substrate in one area might work.

I bought coco soil and originally wanted to make a space for digging, i will included the link.
I didn’t use it, it was terrible. It was completely dry, but extremely dusty. I gave it to my friend who’s neighbour has a reptile tank.
I think a good sand it much better.
