Raffy eats the lot - stem and floret - but then his piece is very very small. Pip has the tiniest floret you can imagine that actually has a bit of stem. Raffy has one marginally bigger than that. So if it's quite a large piece of broccoli they will probably choose the tastiest bit . There is nothing wrong with giving larger amounts of veg as they will only eat what they need, but my worry has always been they will hoard the rest and me have to dig around finding rotten veg!

I only give small pieces but I've decided just to give Albert the broccoli stem from now on. I love learning about what Albert likes and dislikes. It's also nice to see what other hamsters on here like and dislike too. Orko hates broccoli and will kick it away in disgust. I offered it twice and will not make that mistake again.

I think Albert has taken up gardening. I've just found sunflower and pumpkin seeds buried under his water bottle. I wonder how long it would take for them to sprout with the drips from the water bottle and the warmth from the heating.

Got home a few hours ago after being away for four nights. Albert popped his head out of his house. He was looking up at me while I spoke to him. He looked at me if to say "is it really you". He then came over and took a few seeds from the palm of my hand. To my surprise he climbed straight onto my hand and he let me lift him out of his cage for a cuddle. I was worried about leaving him and thought he might forget me. My son has done a great job of looking after him and says Albert has been doing his normal hamster things while I've been away.
