A week in the life of my hamsters - February

Another work day today. This 7 days aren't working out too well because of the days my work days have fallen onto. Last week i worked Sunday instead of during the week and this week it's Monday and Wednesday.
I try to leave more than one free night inbetween work days but doesn't always work out that way doing agency work. I never work two consecutive nights because that wouldn't be fair on the hamsters. One more year to go to my pension and then i'll only work one night per week.

Good morning Clive, was porridge on time today?
He looks adorable there 😍

The thread is great in spite of your work schedule.

I agree, you are doing such a great job of this thread. I found it difficult when I did it and I just have Orko. :)

Thanks. I enjoyed reading Orko's 7 days.

Just realized that i'm talking rubbish. My work day was Friday into Saturday last week so the hamsters had me home for two consecutive nights which is what i aim for.

I actually left a job once because i was unable to leave at the end of my shift and a hamster missed out on his medication. I didn't trust my OH's eyesight with the dwarf hamster dosage.

More recently i received my P45 from an employer because i hadn't accepted enough work from them. The way i saw it was that they didn't offer me work that fitted in with my life and the hamsters are a big part of it.

My choice to have so many so it's my responsibility to give them a half decent life.

Lilly wanted out again. She's running on the big saucer. Lilly has these high energy days where she's very active and wants out a lot followed by days where she keeps to herself and potters about in her cage. Must be a natural circle of some female hamsters.

You are wonderful and so dedicated to your hamsters.

Gosh Lilly is so fast!

She’s so speedy on that saucer, loads of energy! I think it might be a pattern as Mickle was like that with the incredibly energetic days then quieter ones.

As soon as i turned the light off last night, Eddie got up and straight onto his wheel.
I turned the light back on to chat to him. He stopped briefly and looked at me then carried on sprinting on his wheel.
His behaviour amuses me and i left him to it.

Aww thats so cute. Lovely he carried on when you put the light on to chat to him.

I'm curious to find out how long it will take to convince Eddie that he is staying here for good, lol.

Might take him a little while but it is early days, I’m curious to see how his character develops once he’s realised he’s staying in his palace forever now.

Nice that Eddie acknowledged you! Lilly is incredibly energetic.

Incidentally, do female dwarf hamsters have a musky smell like female Syrians? I'm aware it's the other way round with robos, in that males are supposed to smell more than females (not that I've noticed any of our male robos smelling of anything).

I’ve only had Mickle (non of my Chinese girls had that smell) so can’t generalise but she would sometimes have that sweetish musky smell, presumably when she was in heat.

In my experience with dwarf hamsters the females don't have a smell about them but some males do. Ozzy had a musky smell about him and so does Eddie.

Eddie is another messy one!
I just pastry brushed his sand back in the jar and his shelf with the food bowl on is covered in seed shells! Lovely.

Dread to think what Orko would make of this house.
