Thank you both, the spirit is definitely still willing, he seems undaunted by old age but the body isn’t quite the match it was.

Zak’s been full of surprises lately!
A couple of weeks ago I noticed his hammock was stuffed full of substrate & tissue & realised he was sleeping in there for the first time every, he’s always used his hammock as a grooming platform & runs in & out of it but never until now has he slept in there.
When I go to say goodnight he comes to see me then climbs the bridge up to the top of his house & disappears into his hammock, it’s like he’s going upstairs to bed
He’s been eating more of the seeds & nuts I crush up a bit for him & yesterday for the first time in over two months I spotted him going into his house, there were some very energetic sounding digging noises coming from in there, he’s obviously got more energy than I thought & I think maybe he was actually trying to make a hoard for the first time in months as he mostly eats soft food now.
He emerged from his hammock when I got up this morning so still going for the soft option for sleeping.
He’s still a bit of a nomad with his sleeping habits & spends most of his day in his coconut which is only a few inches from his radiator, cosy for cold days.
The house antics really cheered me up as I had been a bit worried about him yesterday, his timing is impeccable!

Aw, it is adorable he comes out when you say goodnight to him. Making a hoard again is amazing. He really is full of surprises.

You two are so tuned into each other. I think that's quite rare.
He likes to be cozy and warm and sounds very comfortable. Lovely to hear that he has the energy to hamster about.

Our bond does seem to be getting stronger than ever, maybe it’s partly because he’s a lot more dependent on me now, sometimes I think we read each others minds!
Who can blame him for wanting a nice comfy bed at his age!

Happy Birthday Zak 
He made it to his special day & is still going strong bless him
The four year old cards were all a bit naff so I got him a lovely Inktails card instead, I think he liked it, he actually got quite excited.
He really picked up again after his early celebration cake, maybe the excitement was a bit of stimulation he needed!
He’s eating a lot more of his crushed up seeds & nuts again now & seems better for it, it’s lovely to see him sitting in his bowl eating like a proper ham again.
I couldn’t really think of any extra treats to get him for his birthday, I think he has everything he’s able to eat but he attacked his crocks with more determination to get all the filling out this morning than he has for days, he had cheese, carrot & chicken! And he’ll have some chicken for tea, he loves that
He is still sleeping a lot but when he is up he’s more active than he was, he keeps hanging out of the door & I’m never quite sure if he’s looking to see where the treats are, looking for yet another new place to make a nest or wants to come out! He does come out some days & has a bit of a cuddle & a run around on me or up my sleeve, he’s tried climbing up my back a few times but he’s so wobbly I have to block him quick!
He did have a lovely birthday cuddle this morning, I don’t know if he knows but he was full of beans this morning, back to bed in his cosy hammock now though

I’m sure he will love that just as much as mine, I think he was probably more interested in the cheese on mine!
I felt a bit mean as I went out today, I never normally go out & didn’t like leaving him on his birthday but no doubt he slept most of the time. As soon as I got in I got his birthday tea ready & he was sitting in his bowl waiting when I went to the cage. I wanted to get a vid of him enjoying his chicken but he was in such a rush I was still holding the bowl while he ate it!

Thank you both, I’m sure he didn’t mind really & I think he was tucked up in his hammock most of the time.
He has the Lily’s kitchen smooth pate Rainbow, it’s very easy for him to eat & he loves it.
