I’m a first time hamster owner and today I brought home my first ever baby!

Her names Yolandi and she’s a female long haired Syrian hamster. I got her from a local pet store that claimed to of gotten their hamsters from more ethical breeders and upon even just seeing her there, I immediately knew she was perfect. She already has so much personality. Shes so sweet and social, and after exploring her cage the first thing she started doing was burrowing! She found the underground burrow I’d put in her cage almost immediately. Like seriously in a matter of 10 minutes.. tops.

If anyone has any tips for owning female hamsters as someone who’s never owned a hamster before but has done extensive research, please reply with advice!! I can show what her cage looks like in another post and I’ll keep everyone updated!

Congratulations :-) She looks gorgeous and it sounds like she has a lovely home/enclosure. Female syrians can be notorious for being very active (and also friendly :-)). So they need plenty of things to rip up (cardboard egg boxes are popular) and she may want regular out of cage time, once she's had a couple of weeks to fully settle in.

What a cute little hamster!
Welcome to the forum, looking forward to more fotos of Yolandi
