Wild black hamsters

In Germany they have black wild hamster, they are only to be found in Thuringia. They are threatened with extinction unfortunately. But the German government are strictly protecting them.

They are beautiful 🥰 I'm glad to see the colour exists in the wild and that they are getting help. I hope they survive 🙏❤️

Well I thought I knew about wild hamsters in Europe, but I had no idea there were black ones! So it's a natural mutation then. Interesting how their ears contrast so much. And they are cute. Are there any videos of them?

This is so interesting I'm going to move those posts about the wild black hamsters to a new thread if you don't mind :-)

Were your screenshots from this page? It says the black is a dominant colour now and litters can be all black or some black some coloured and the different colours breed together. That suggests there might be some more colour mutations appear if the black hamsters are breeding with the coloured (golden hamsters) ...............

I will check but I doubt that they will have any

I think it’s a different page but I will post the link. I hope you can change from German to English 🌺

It says the black wild hamsters are only found in Thuringia. That’s a beautiful very rural part of east Germany.
Here we have wolfs.
My boss has seen him frequently.

Wolves have been seen yelping in fear and fleeing into the forest. Shortly after a grumpy looking black hamster comes hurrying into view muttering, where did that wolf go? 😉

On that first video the black one is so cute! Clearly seeing people off but he does look like a panda or a teddy bear. They look completely different somehow. There are some other videos of the European hamster on here - not sure if you've seen them.

Also this video from a BBC documentary
