I think they come with a replaceable cork track which helps. Rachels, who is a member on here, has a good video about working out the best wheel for her dwarf hamster The one she went for seems very similar to the one you have now and the hamster also slips up backwards sometimes, which I think is quite normal until they get used to it or even just happens sometimes and isn't a problem for them.

My Syrian, Draco, was the same way. He flew off of it three times! I got him the Silent Runner 12 inch and he LOVES it!!
