Just wondering what everyone's hamsters' favourite item is in their enclosure. House and wheel are often well used! But aside from that, any special thing? Tino likes his corner shelf to sit under. Higgins likes sitting in his sputnik
Blossom’s favourite thing is definitely her dig box, made from an old, too small, wheel. As soon as I gave it to her, it calmed down her craziness and climbing. At 2 years old now, she still goes in it every day for a forage
Socks was very fond of his first home made cardboard multi chamber house and used it avidly even though it had light leaking into it through badly made joints. He treated it with great respect and it remained unsoiled and unchewed, unlike all of the houses that came after it. He had a Quaker Oat box that he customised energetically until there wasn't much left of it. Currently, I think it is his Rolly wheel, which he enjoys bashing into activity. It is heavier than his sleeker Omlet wheel, which he does use quite a lot, but he seems to want to check in with the Rolly wheel (every night ) He's looking frailer though and I am wondering when old age will claim his favourite wheel from him
Well even if his wheel bashing days are closing in, they still enjoy their wheels I find the main thing is easy access when they're older. Our first hamster, Charlie, right up to two weeks before he passed (and he was 2 years and 8 months) still used his wheel for a quick 10 second "fix" daily. He didn't have the energy for a lot of wheel running but he would come out, hop on the wheel, run for about 10 seconds and hop out again and he looked so pleased at doing it! I did lower his wheel so it was level with he substrate, so he could hop in and out easily.
